I think we should post an image of a used part, and then each member gives a price and the reason why they feel its worth that much. Because lately, I am baffled at where the price value of certain items are coming from. I am sure I am not the only one who agrees with this....

IMHFO, price is so subject to how quick you can get it, how bad you need it, people budget & the quality of a part, where you live &/or parts availability/rarity, what I may pay for a part, someone else will not, if you need it bad enough & the sellers know that or it's a rare piece, they tend to elevate the pricing, especially in the MoPar parts world, they are very often "way over priced"... we have allot of price shopping cheapskates, trying to chisel ever last dime out of the price & allot of people that think their rusty-old worn out parts are worth their weight in gold too... a fair price for a fair part, would really be a nice change of pace, not cheap & not overpriced, reasonable would be really nice....

My take is the restoration market has collapsed as people quit restoring cars to flip them and now the market is reverting back to being driven by hobbyists rather than investors. As a result the demand for parts is dropping as the hobbyist market is much, much, smaller than the investor market. Just as car owners need to adjust to falling prices, so do parts owners.

I've been needing a 150 MPH speedo and recently found a Rallye cluster with a 150 speedo and a tach, plus the clock that had been replaced by the tach, for $100. I thought great, I can buy the cluster, pull the speedo, and sell the rest on eBay and make money on the deal. Then I checked what these were selling for on eBay and found they weren't selling. There were several clusters on there in the normal $300 range, but they weren't selling. The only cluster I saw that sold was a restored one that sold for $600, which had to be a loss for the seller. Even the gauges themselves weren't selling. Two years ago I sold a set of 14" rallye rims for $200 in a matter of days, but I just saw a set of five sit on craigslist for months, starting at $300 and finally sold for $80 or less. I've had a radiator and trans on there for months at only $100 each. A few years ago they would have sold in weeks for twice as much.

I think people just really think that every little thing they have is worth big bucks, it's just not so.If I want a ralley gauge cluster set up and have to buy something that cost 400 and then pay someone another 500 to 700 to restore it ! Its those types of players that drives this market way up.I myself do my own research and do my own restoring to save money.

OK I will bite. Don't have a picture of them (someone might help us out here) I am thinking of the three bars (red white and blue) on the trunk lid of a 64 Sport Fury. Any body is welcome to comment.

perfect example is the 68-70 B-body automatic chrome top-plate consoles, door, trim lights, wiring, carpet & shifter, E-scam junk, usually for near $1000, most aren't complete either & the decent USA made re-pops for about $1500, I'd pay the $1500 before I spend $1000 on some faded ol' crack & pitted up/rusty junk & have to restore it & re-chrome every part, spending even more $$$... I don't even want or need the damn shifter, it's for a custom installation... I've had a few opportunities to buy some, I wish I did now, you snooze you lose... Everything I seem to be able find "is junk" or I'm broke or shouldn't really spend the extra car money or need something much more important, when I find something reasonably priced in decent shape... But most are just junk usually & seller want way too much, it's a console not complete running engine people... seems like crap for gold prices & I'm no cheapskate... $500 should be a great price for both people, seller & buyers, if it's in great shape... ok of my pet peeve now

hell I can buy full front suspension cheaper

we have allot of price shopping cheapskates, trying to chisel ever last dime out of the price.

Yep, that's me! I am thrilled to say I've never fallen for the "fair price" scam. There's no such thing as a fair price, there are only best prices and bad prices. My goal is to do something besides pay more than I have to, which is 180 out from the seller's goal, and if I get a seller to accept a lower price, I've done my job. And if the seller holds out for more, then my job is to find another seller... not to pay more to the seller to be fair. :) This has especially been the case over the past 25 years or so as sellers have controlled the market. Now buyers are taking control back and it's about time.
