I'm thinking of using a late 60's factory HP-440 cam in my non-HP '71 440 engine. Will the 71's factory valve springs (all in good shape) work okay with this cam, or do I need something better?
For the price of a set of springs, i'd personall get a new set to match the cam. As for the old ones, unless they're all checked individually (off the head) it's a bit of an unknown quantity.
The non HP springs tend to have more coils than the HP springs, which makes them softer and more prone to coil bind. I'd go with the factory HP springs. 90-100 lbs on the seat @ the installed height.
