Hey Guys
My console is a little beat in my 64 Polara. Mostly the glove box. So for the mean time I want to install the Hurst V-Matic 2. What is the best way for me to mount it to the hump? I will grind off the welds for the brackets of the ole console to reinstall later.

Cheers
Ed

Leave the stock mounts and bolt an aluminum plate to them and mount your shifter to that.
Or use the same plate and carpet it like the carpet in the car then mount your shifter on it.

Just a thought. I looks ok in my head LOL. But that's not saying much.

Sounds good. But the stock shifter is bolted to the console and the console is bolted to tabs welded to the floor. I need to cut the tabs off and mount the V-gate to the floor some how.

I like the Hurst shifter in the original console. Looks good.
So now the problem i have is that i have 2 cables. One is
the Park cable and one is the shift cable. Did some testing and
i know i can install the shift cable to the V-Matic. But what do i do
with the park cable? Its original tranny and i dont want to change out till next year.
Can I leave the Park bracket on the tranny in the unlock postion?
It seems spring loaded. Would it engage into Park by vibration while driving?
Or is it safe?

I would not be thrilled not having "park".You could just get a pushbutton shifter set up and mount/modify that so you can engage "park"

I mounted a PB shifter between the seats caus I am a righty:icon_wink:

Just for anyone else trying to accomplish this. Installing a V-Matic shifter into their 64
Polara with an original tranny. It will not work. The Hurst shifter cable will not install onto the tranny. The original shifter cable is a screw in style that attaches near the front of the tranny. No pivot style shifter arm I assume that is on trannys 65 and up. I went underneath to start the process and noticed the problem right away.
