Hey guys,
I have my valve body apart to install/drill for my shift kit. When I opened it I noticed it has a lot of gunk. I tried using Q tips to clean the tunnels but it has a lot and I was just wondering what I can use to clean this, I assume carb cleaner or an engine degreaser will be fine?

BTW; has anyone used the TransGo shift kit for a 727?

Thanks,
~Nick

I would just use brake cleaner and blast all of the hard to reach places. I have a valve body from a tranny I am going to rebuild. It is really bad. So bad I may just junk it actually. But I let it soak in varasol, then brake cleaner to dry it.

I have 5 gallon pail full of mineral spirits easier on your hands and lungs than brake cleaner and carb cleaner, avoid cotton swabs make sure you use compressed air to blow it clean. a 727 VB is pretty easy compared to most transmissions

up until a few years ago I was a professional builder used trans go kits all the time

Thanks, now that you mention it I can see why cotton swabs can be a problem :BangHead: Just seemed like the easiest way to get all the thick build up. I'll have to check to see if we have any in the garage. I was a little afraid of the tranny but I tore it apart and believe I know how to put it back together haha.

I have used Trans Go and they worked great. Pay attention to the details and be sugically clean and you'll be fine. The worst enemy for a valve body is particulates.

Cool, thanks. I have never opened up a tranny or looked at a valve body before, it is crazy how someone came up with the idea of it. I'm going to make all these tunnels running around with balls and fluids, it should make it shift. I'll be sure to be careful cleaning it. Any idea on how much difference between the two sizes of drill bits will make on the shifts?

Yeah, it's pretty much a mechanical computer.

Never bothered to test drill bit sizes. I just followed the destructions because I wanted it to work when I was done!

Yeah it is amazing. My kit came with two size bits for 1-2 and 2-3 shift it said the bigger one is firmer. I'm just wondering how much firmer the bigger one is over the smaller one.
