I bought my car from a guy that had been drag racing it and im assuming it has a reverse valve body.. you have to manually make it shift into second and third. so my question is can i just put a new valve body for a 727 and it shift normal?

Yes you can

Many years ago i had installed a manual valve body on a 727 trany and didnt like it and changed it back. Make sure you have all the parts, balls and springs etc that need to be changed out.
Maybe its best you bring it to a trany shop that works on the older cars they will know excatly how to put it back correctly.

If you go back to the fully automatic valve body make sure all the throttle pressure linkage is hooked up and working right or it can burn up the clutches as it effects line pressure. Ron

like he said, you will need all the original "kick down"linkage from carb to trans.if it is missing you will need to find one.

most, new, manual valve bodies cannot be reversed back into OE configuration. Fine an OEM valve body and you can put it into place. Now, some kits had the (see pic below) trans housing modified with a small plug. Be sure this is not located in this port, if it is, remove it prior to installing your OE VB.

You didn't state the shift pattern. Reverse valve body is PRN123 , if yours shifts PRN321 it is a manual forward shift valve body.

Mine shifts PRN123 and yea it dont have kick down linkage so i will need that it also was auto on the column so i gotta convert that back also as there is no shifter or colar on column.. any good places to find these parts to make this swap thanks for all info.

bouchillon performance makes a great kickdown cable that is engineered specifically for mopar geometry (kinda pricey, but way better than a lokar unit).

or you can put up an add in moparts or just swap hunt on ebay or your local car shows. the bouchillon kit can be a permanent (or temporary unit if you later want to find OE pieces) thing if you choose.
