valve cover breathers

Hello All, I have a 440 HP motor with valve cover breathers on both sides. They are currently open with nothing connected to them. The passenger side will let out a little smoke after awhile. I have been told the passenger side needs to be connected to something.

Is it essential to have this connected and if so where does it connect? One guy told me to the intake manifold and someone else said to a bung on the header??

The header bugs are only necessary on 7000rpm motors.

One goes to the original air cleaner & the other is a p.c. valve that goes to the back of the intake.

It is important to install a pcv valve on one of the valve covers and a breather on the other. The pvc valve now gets rooted to the proper pcv vacuum port on your carb. Pcv stands for 'positive crankcase ventilation'. The carb introduces vacuum to the valve and sucks the vapors from your engine and into the carb to burn. The other valve cover breather is to allow air into the engine.

You need to find out which port on your carb is designated for the pcv. It will likely be capped off with a rubber nipple since its not being used. As moparsal states, the pcv can be hooked to to your intake as well, in the proper port if you have one.
