valve pressure adjustment on 727 transmission

There should be a specialtool C 3763 for adjusting valve pressure. Does anyone have the specs for it?

Just set mine today on my 68 GTS using the Factory Service Manual. No special tools needed

I used a hydraulic hose and pressure gauge hooked into the pressure port to check mine, might be an overkill but I don't trust the whole set it by measurement alone. Like chicken said, no special tools needed.

I am guessing you mean line pressure and not throttle pressure. Because to set throttle pressure on the valve body there is a special tool you need but to set line pressure its just a measurement that is from the valve body to the inner edge of the adjusting nut. The one in my 1989 service manual is 1-5/16" but if you know the year of the trans just look it up to be sure its the same. Most I have done for stock rebuilds I set at the 1-5/16" setting. Ron

Well....I mean throttle pressure. In my manual I can see line pressure should be 1 5/16. It looks like I could increase pressure by a millimeter or two.
If I got it right I need to adjust throttle pressure when transmission is installed? When I look at valvebody I can see big backlash on throttle pressure lever, but maybe I adjust it with Lokar kickdown wire?

You can set the Throttle pressure valve in the valve body with the valve body on the bench. It should show you the special tool in the service manual. Most of the time they are set right unless someone messed with it. Ron

You can be of by .060" and it changes very little with the stock valve body, about 3 psi

Yes, we have line pressure, and throttle pressure. 2 different adjustments. At least I know now that you can change throttle pressure with the valve body out, with the special tool. I am trying to get mine to shift above 4000 on 1-2 and 4500 on the 2-3 shift. I just put in a 5600 RPM governor, that got me from 4000 to 4500 on the 2-3, but 1-2 is still at 4000. Linkage is set correctly. Line pressure is at 55 idle, 88 with the throttle pressure lever all the way back. Next I'm going to put in a stronger line pressure spring, and a white spring in the 1-2 shift valve. See what that does. By the way, this is a 1977 440 and 727 from an RV. I think the factory set the RV trannys up to shift at a lower RPM.

Ok, thanks. I guess that's with the throttle valve completely pushed up against the valve body, and 5/8 in between that and the kickdown cam. Is that right?
