I'm impressed with the VHT wrinkle black. It took a few hours for it to work its magic but the paint looks awesome. Took the old Chrome Edelbrock valve covers and air cleaner and sanded the chrome down to etch it. The results are I turned a shitty old set of valve covers into something I can use on the 440.

Yup, cook 'em and that stuff will go hard as rock. Make sure its nice enough to keep the windows and doors open though - the stuff will stink up the house otherwise.

When I've bought a new stove, old goes in garage. Painted a couple of steel rims, let them air dry then 1 hour at 200 in oven. Turn it off and let it cool over night.

I usually crank it to 300. 200 doesn't even boil water !!

I agree. I took a nice Shiney polished set of covers, sand blasted them and then black wrinkle painted them. I just put several heat lamps around them. Didn't have an oven to bake them in. They came out perfect. The wrinkle is even more textured than I was expecting.

I will take some up close shots. I at first thought.. This is bullshit, it looks like thick *** paint. But left it in the garage over night came back to it the next morning I was like Hell yah that **** rocks. I tested it on a old piece of Unistrut.

Hair drier works good too. Set on high 1500 watts.Hey use what ya got !

The trick is to apply even coats. If you get a thin area, it hardly wrinkles. Too thick and it can sag. I have used a heat gun to cure it. Once it gets warm enough, it's fun watching the wrinkles spread.

The air cleaner top looks like it might have had a thin spot of two on it. May try and go over that again.

Your place looks like a Science lab. Mine looks like a back alley coat hanger abortion clinic.

I was being cautious, might have done 250* but didn't pull from oven until next day. 300* would be ok.
BeepBeepRR they look nice.

I have tried this several times and can not get an even coat and the size of the wrinkles is never consistent. Especially around the edges and corners. I wound up powder coating my air cleaner and am very happy with the results. Money well spent. :2cents:

The trick I found was to put on several thick coats as quick as you can without making it run and heat it as soon as possible. I left heat on it until it all looked wrinkled 100% all over my valve covers. The thickness gives it a deeper wrinkle .

That is the engine build assembly area at my work. My place is just a crammed full 2 car garage.
