Hi guys, Quick question…my 1962 Plymouth…just made an observation re: my VIN plate which is on driver door jamb/lower A-pillar. First two digits appear to be stamped from above…last 8 digits appear to be stamped from backside of plate. Is this right? Did Chrysler do this at factory…I hope? Had no trouble registering it…actually did an online search and it checks out as 1962 Plymouth Belvedere…V8. Thanks…

That's exactly how my 62 savoy looks. First two from top side, next eight from below.
First two look hand stamped, last eight look machine stamped.

That’s good to know. Thank you for sharing that info. I really wouldn’t have known unless I needed to do a pencil tracing of it (today for guy buying it from me). I didn’t have an issue registering it in my state when I bought it years ago…but the state DMV that the buyer lives in requires it. That and the first two numbers thing seemed a bit off to me. Almost looked like someone had added the first two numbers: 32….after the fact. Yikes…LOL

First two digits Car Line and Model. Maybe they had to wait to punch those or the opposite.

Dodge is also like that...
