The highschool I went to had a trailer classroom full. We did a certain number of simulator hrs to account for the required behind the wheel time by the state. Last I heard they still had 'something' in place...if they are the same ones, I don't know. I can remember burying the speedometer for the entire class. There were counting machines at the back of the class, and we used to see who could get the highest number of infractions in one class. Ah, good times.
Look close, it was a dual system. We had 1973/1974 Full Size Chev dashes. They were housed in a professionally converted 50" or so mobile home. You watched the screen ahead of all of the simulators. I remember they were computer controlled that recorded your mistakes against the video. I also remember getting around that by two footed driving simultaneously. Many school districts would rent the simulator trailer a couple times a year as needed. A few years ago in central Wisconsin there was a complete unit with all equipment inside and functioning in the trailer on Craigs. It was removed after awhile and I hope it went to someone who appreciated it. By the way I used the unit described in 1977.
The chevy ones were really simple.. You just pretend that your driving to the junkyard. Then bam in real life your walking again buy a chevy buy the best drive a mile then walk the rest.
