wow ,it sure was a rough time and a rough group of drivers back than ,thanks for sharing:head_smack:

It's hard to believe nobody back then thought of simple seat belts.

those guys were nuts....but talk about balls of steel...not too many people nowadays would race in cars like that with no safety gear..

I have a friend that's old enough to remember back then. He said they didn't put seat belts on hoping they would be thrown clear. I always wondered about that, but seen it for real now, thanks.

I was thinking the same thing that some of them are alive BECAUSE they were thrown clear.

Not sure that I'd want a seatbelt with an open cockpit and no roll bar. Pretty sure the best thing you could do in a wreck is get as far away as possible. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. I feel like I just watched a snuff film.

thanks that was interesting, sure glad i didn't live in that era.. I'd probably be dead & gone.. almost all the cars were, open cars, roadster etc., you would think other than the Indy car open wheel stuff, they would have wanted closed cockpits {just weight I guess}... but the Tucker was really the 1st car with a bunch of saftey items built into it, the big 3 Auto Mfgrs were fighting them the whole damn way too, like saftey glass, seat belts, beefed up roof, padded dash, etc. & they never went to full production & only built 50 of them too...
