hey

please read other posts on voltage issues;.........however had voltage reg tested and it failed so i got a new one and installed it with a good ground to the motor. and checked all connections. my factory harness is in good shape as far as connections goes. factory terminal on alternator battery term. 2 n 1 .. field wire green termal factory ........other field grounded to motor.....other info do have bypass to starter rely.... all worked good till flat battery issues.
install sunpro volt gage at idle the voltage seems high. about 16 and on increase idle even higher ..........however if i put ac on lights and all other stuff volts drop to 12.6-13.6. at idle. i think it should be ok not road tested yet....... asking before hand for your input. as allways thanks. hurry up cool weather

Have you checked your system voltage with a DVOM or other accurate diagnostic VOM? None of the available add-on/in-under dash voltmeters are accurate enough for diagnostic purposes.

It happened once to me I was able to have 18-20 volts at iddle but discharge reading at ammeter and 24 volts revving up while ammeter barelly pass up the center reading. Found the alternator was shorting inside. One of the stator to diodes leads was making contact with the rotor vent vanes while spinning. This caused the short, but just while spinning.
