I am presently replacing my old (race only) voltage regulator with an updated more street friendly voltage regulator. I have included a photo layout below, illustrating present setup.
Unfortunately, the new regulator came with no installation guide. This and the fact, wiring
colors and pin locations of this new regulator differ, from what was previously modified on
my 68 GTX - has created some confusion, in wiring up this new regulator correctly...

As always, your helpful comments are appreciated.
Keep On Rock'n :)

I believe the red wire on the older style reg goes to the ballast resistor as should the blue on the new style which is also connected to fld2 on that style of alt. green still goes to the fld1 on the alt as before.

Further to the helpful comments of Glenwood, I did a little more digging and found the following wiring diagram. No doubt, it is one of many - and perhaps not the most modern of such wiring updates - but it does help clarify my initial concerns, prior to wiring up the new regulator. This also takes advantage of my new 2 field alternator - whatever advantages that might yield - over my previous single FLD setup.

I look forward to any further comments, before I tackle this latest project :)

IMO the single field alternators are fine. The newer electronic regulators are surely better. A really good ground connection on the electronic regulators is really critical.

See the schematic above. The old regulator controlled the +12volt current to one side of the field connection and the other field connection was grounded to complete the circuit. The new regulator controls current from the second alternator field connection (Green wire) back to ground (regulator case grounded to body.) The first alternator field will now have full (switched) power (blue wire.) The Blue wire on the regulator will power the regulator and "sense" the control voltage.

Should I also include a FUSE on the 'Blue' or 'Green' wiring, and if so, what type?
