Wanted 1966 Dodge charger radio

I am looking for a working original radio for my 1966 Dodge Charger. Wish me luck lol

Shane

Shane, I have a couple radios but non-working of course. Holler if you want one to have repaired.
Probably already got some of those, right?

Do you have a set of 1966 radio knobs you would like to sell. My car has a working AM radio it just isnt a correct one.

I have a friend that has two 66 Charger EL radios. Going over there tomorrow to do some trading. I'll check and see if the face and pointer lights up on each of them and let you know. Not sure if the AM actually works.

Two of my three first gens have had the radios converted to AM/FM Stereo by SM Electrotechnical in MN. Both work great, look totally stock and they leave the EL lighting alone....highly recommend them....

Shane,
Pretty sure I do have a set of the 66 knobs. Had planned to use them on our 67 since it completes the pointy look along the dash. Not concerned about what is "correct" as it's a driver anyway, not a show car. I'll double check this weekend and let you know.

Thank you, Mine is also a daily driver but it is nice to have things look correct.

I also have a 66 radio but have no idea if it works or not. I also have the knobs. Wife is wanting me to install something different. I should upgrade it to am/fm/bluetooth etc. I do this at our shop for many other types of radios.

The conversions are far less sensitive on AM, aren't as able to reject strong adjacent stations, and have the audio upper frequencies cut off to even lower fidelity than old telephone land-lines.
If AM reception is important to you, I recommend restoring your radio to original design, and find an FM converter.
There are some no-cost methods to even improve the fidelity to the old radios so that the sound can be as crisp as FM if the station itself is high fidelity and the source audio is hi-fi.

Hey guys how do you remove the radio? I have a EL one in my 67 and I'd love to get it reconditioned but do I have to remove the cluster and dash too?

Should be the two front nuts, one support rod to a stud at the back with a nut, two wires to the speaker, and two wires on a double wire plug for power and dial light.
Don't know about Charger , but Belvedere radio comes out easily from under the dash.
I'd be happy to repair any original radio, and add mp3 player/ phone input cable.
I have 3-4 of these already, unsure of operating condition.
With car off, in accessory position, do you hear a tiny "thump" in the speaker when turning it on?
Do you see a tiny little deflection of the ammeter when turning it on/off?

Dartthomas,
What is the tariff for fixing an original 66-67 radio, without the added inputs?

Like anything, time and parts, that's why I had asked a few questions.
I ask $20 per hour plus parts, and have seem most normal faults take 2 hours or less.
The aux input takes about 2 hours to make up the isolation cable and install.
Much cheaper than a new radio.
Time is tight, I'm moving out of a house I've been in 23 years and gotta clear out in a few weeks.
Please check the radio operation; a light thud in the speaker at power-on?, and ammeter (if you still have one) deflection.

Thanks for that, I would love that service DartThomas but the shipping from Ireland would kill me :)

Nothing at all happens when I turn the radio on (must check ammeter), no noise or pops etc, but it does light up with the EL lights on it is taking power, might be something simple once I get it out like loose wire or bust speaker, I'll check with manual power meter before the search for a smart fixer guy this side of the water.

So if I take the front knobs off then I should be able to get in at the back maybe via the glove box or from under the dash undo that retaining nut and wiggle out?

Should be able to reach the back nut from under dash and wiggle it down and out
without removing the glove compartment liner. The noise at turn on is VERY small,
as is the movement of the meter, but every mopar I've had does do this.
It would be nice if you have just had a fuse blow, or a speaker wire come off, be sure to check both of these.
