Gentlemen,

I have decided to warm over the 318 in my 67 Coronet just to make it more fun to cruise around in while I restomod the car and at later date swap in a bigblock.

The engine is a bone stock 67 318 2bbl with 68,000 miles. The parts I gathered are as follows.

1.) Swapmeet Holley Street Dominator 318 intake.
2.) Comp cams XE268H Cam, lifters, Springs and timing set.
3.) Carter AFB 650cfm
4.) Mopar Electronic Ignition conversion with orange box.

A few questions, anyone running a similar setup, what is the stock compression ratio for the 1967 318 2bbl, I am having 2 ½ duals installed tomorrow on a mild 318 like this are headers really worth much?

Thanks for in advance for any replies I look forward to any opinions.

Keep in mind that the engine is small so think small on the parts. I think the exhaust is a bit on the large side for a teen but sounds like you are building it with a larger engine in mind for later? Yeah, headers will help any engine but again, don't go with a large tube. 1 5/8" isn't too small for it imo. Cam should be ok but I would make sure it made it in with a few degrees advance and NONE retarded if you want the engine to have decent low end. Also, go with the Mopar Performance heavy duty rocker arms and it would help to do the valve pockets. The factory backcut really sucks....

The 268 cam should be OK if your compression is in the 9:1 range but you won't know for sure unless you CC it. Also, not sure if 318's came with steel shim gaskets back in 67 so adding a comp gasket will lower the compression up to .4 points. Maybe play it on the conservative side and go with the 260 cam. Headers will typically pay off at high RPM but for the mild build you may not notice any difference.

There's a good article in current "Engine Master's" issue about a 318 build.
