Best friend in high school had an uncle who bought one new. It was a real oddball back in the day, with the stock single exhaust, and full wheel covers.
Yeah ^^^^ My buddy bought new 1971 Challenger 383 2bbl 4 speed.
Didn't stay that way. Insurance was a problem in the late 60's-early 70's
So Chrysler was doing 2bbl 4 speed cars and 340 3 speed cars too to beat the rate increase on performance cars.
True or not I don't know. I just remember when I bought a 340 3 speed Duster in 1970 that is what the insurance agent told me way back then.
I think there may be some misremembering going on....there's no factory documentation that a four speed was available with a 383-2bbl in a 71 Challenger.
