I am considering getting a Weiand cross ram, also called Street Tunnel Ram for a 440. Also comes with the stock 440 6 pak carbs, and 6 pak top. I have heard that these are a night mare to set up properly. Anyone have much success with these? What kind of horse power increase can you expect with this set up? As compared to a single plane intake? How well does yours work, Meep-Meep? Any help and experience with this combo would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gary

I think I know the intake you're talking about.....but the only one I've ever heard called the "Street Tunnel Ram" was made by Edelbrock. I have one out in the shop for a small block.

Actually the Weiand is its own intake and the street tunnel ram would be the Edelbrock STR. The STR is more like a big box that fits under the hood. Both are a fuel distribution nightmare. I ran one years ago for a brief period - not long enough to get dialed in - but it seemed like it meant business. I will try again soon with a single 4 BBL.

Here is my STR 14-4

Yea that last one is the Weiand type I am looking at getting. Looks as if it would really work well if you get the fuel flow right. Has the runners similar to the max wedge intake. Good ram effect I would think. Guess it was meant for a super stock application, as a legal intake that made real good power.

those long runner intakes can be rough to get set right and are designed for upper rpm range power.can be hard to get to run right on a street car(loose a ton of bottom end torque)but work great on a true race car.

Rodney has three of these. One he made a dual quad top for. He says if you want some good info on them, email Don Dulmage because he's the legend genius on them intakes.

Read some of the older D.C. information regarding these intakes before purchasing. I had one that was mint that I had picked up at a swap meet and was planning to install it on my car. With solid engine mounts, the top plate was at the fender line. It would be fine to run without a breather system and just carburetors, but it looks like it would be a nightmare all together trying to get one to fit under a factory six pack hood with even the factory poly mounts. Fuel puddling was the issue for the street, and if you look at the inner manifold you will understand why. Very poor fuel distribution; requiring all the D.C. mods to get sorted out. I would say nearly impossible to run it on the street without running into the fuel puddling issues that it was plagued with. Best six pack intake by far, but was designed strictly to dominate in super stock with the six pack setup. I would run a Victor with a 850 BG or Holley carburetor if you are looking for maximum horsepower, with the barry grant being the better of the two choices due to its higher flow..

Thanks everyone for the info. Think I will steer clear of this one. There are enough things to work on in a car besides having to spend alot of time and money on an intake set up. If any body is interested in getting one, PM me for the guys phone number. He seems open to trades. C Ya
