Has anyone ever successfully removed the center caps from an older ('94) Weld Racing Prostar rim? It has a sticker on the inside of the cap saying to push on the edges, but it is not budging. It is supposed to push out through the back. The cap will spin in the rim so it is not seized but it will not pop out. I have been using a rubber mallet on it. Called Weld and they said they are hard to get out on the old ones and to do what I have been doing with the mallet but these just will not budge and don't want to destroy it. Anyone got these things out before and how did you do it without destroying it?

may sound dumb , but did you take the wheel off? squirt some WD in there , and get a little more aggressive. if it says push through, then it goes in and out from the back. if it is sectioned in the hub area it goes on and off from the front. at least that's been my experience. I don't know how this post ended up sounding so dirty lol

Yeah have the tire off. It pushes through the back. The cap spins in the rim so it is not seized. It will just not come out. Been beating on it with a rubber mallet. My next step is going to have to be to lay a board across it and get a heavier mallet or sledge and just beat it out. Just don't want to damage it but looking like I may not have a choice if this does not work. Was hoping there was some kind of trick to getting them out.

i used to sell those back in the day.when you have real stubborn ones you may end up destroying the cap to get it out.if it is spinning it has bulged out inside the middle of the wheel.there is a spacer in the middle of those wheels that has a slightly larged hole then the outter lips.if it will not budge, try some needle nose pliers on the inside lip and bend toward the center of the wheel on the back side of the cap.if you get it out that way,you can bend it back to fit and not have any damage to the part of the cap you can see when it is bolted up.
