What are you using for an air filter for stock 67 GTX air cleaner?

What I found that most often comes up in searches is a Fram CA 127 but it (and similar filters) measures 3.5” tall. I don’t think the air cleaner top is going to sit down on the base and the top may rub the hood pad. It looks like it needs a 3” tall filter but that doesn’t seem to be available. Ordered a WIX 42043 (also 3.5” tall) from Rock Auto (shipping far more than filter) since neither the Fram or similar filters seemed to be in stock at any of the local FLAPS.

What is everyone else using?

The Wix filter you listed is what I used. The upper lid sits on the lower part of the air cleaner. Shouldn’t be any gap.

Try Wix 42044 which is 2 3/4 inches tall. They were stock on the Barracuda or Roadrunner unsilenced air cleaners in 1968-69

I’ll see how the WIX 42043 fits when it gets here. Maybe it will fit OK. I think 2-3/4 will be too thin as the cavity seems to be somewhere between 3-1/8 to 3-1/4” high. Kind of dumb but I’ve been running a filter in it from a 68 unsilenced air cleaner that used to be on the car and I swapped it into the stock air cleaner awhile back. I picked it up yesterday to sit back on the engine and realized the filter was rattling around inside when I shook it. I measured it and it was only 2-1/2” thick.

Thanks

According to this website, the 3.5" tall element is correct for a '67 GTX:

The Fram CA-305 has always been the stock size...
Again according to that website, the '68-'69 unsilenced air cleaners take that filter.

I just went out and measured the one on Fred, which I'm positive has an original filter in it....
I can verify the 2 3/4" dimension (and boy, does he need a new element!).

Yup, deleted that... CA305 fits the 68 & newer stuff... I missed the 67 part..

I didn't know this part either....apparently there's a CA-305 and a CA-305V filter.
The 305 is the typical thin metal mesh and the 305V is the heavy metal outer screen like originals.
I had no idea those were still available?

Yup... Though the 305V is out of stock at most places.... If you own a 70-71 Air Grabber maybe it's worth the extra $$$ to have a stock looking element... My cars have enclosed air cleaners so I won't spend the extra for it...

You guys were right (no surprise). The 3-1/2 inch tall WIX42043 filter fit fine and the top seated down on the base fine.
