A friend of mine is always hitting the junkyards in his area and came across a just brought in 62 Plymouth (well maybe it was a Dodge - don't remember). Anyway it has a B engine in it, 4 barrel with AFB, dual point distributor, dual exhaust. He pulled the valve covers - casting numbers are 2201324 and the block has a large "HP" on it. Dang forgot to ask him where. I told him I suspect it's a 361 or maybe a 383. Anyone have an idea of what he found? He already asked - they won't sell the car complete.

2206324 head casting number- used 1961/1962-361/383/413 - 2.08 1.60
Would need to know where the HP is stamped, the location is different on a 361/383 and a 413. I would guess its a 413 because I don't think they had a HP 361 or 383 that early. If it was a Max Wedge 413 the casting numbers on the heads would be 2402 286. I will mention that the HP 413 was made in 1959 so if it is an HP block it could either be an earlier engine or a 67 or later engine. Block casting number would make a big difference in knowing what it is.

Yep, 361's in 62 B-bodies were 4bbl, dual point, dual exhaust, HP engines w/"special" cams. 305HP, 395 ft/lbs of torque.

He's confirmed that it's a 361 and it's a 62 Polara 500. He's gone back today to strip it as much as he could afford to buy.
