What do two "B"s mean on a 1969 440-RB ID pad?

I have a 1969 440 with an engine stamping of 2536430-6 on the passenger side of the block. On the top of the block next to the distributor cap there is the RB engine pad that reads:

1st line - E440
2nd line - a backwards "B" and then on a few spaces later a "B" with the bumps facing up
3rd line - 1.2 25 2

Any help in identifying these enging pad "B"s would be great.

Thanks

The letter "B" indicates that both main and rod bearings are undersized by .010", why it was stamped twice with the "B"? You would likely have to ask the guy with the stamp.

I'm curious hot to translate the last line too.. First line indicates a 1969 (E) 440 block, that I know. The Bs I didn't know about, thanks for the insight dematt1 - (maybe the second B laying down indicates a rebuild after the motor went tits up! :) I always thought the last line was the assembly date in the month - day format (with the casting date on the side of the block)?

Thanks for the info and good question. One questions I have as a newbie is why would they request undersized bearings? to fit a smaller crank?

Yes , I would imagine that it wasn't so much that somebody was requesting undersized bearings, but that the engine builder/assembler was stating what he installed in the motor. This info could have been used as quick reference by the servicing dealers.
As for the other numbers in the 3rd line, they don't seem to translate to the 10,000 day calender, so they could be codes for the upper engine, heads, intake and cam. If anybody could clarify, I would be interested.

Sometimes in production, things don't go just right and they are not going to throw away a new crank just because it needs to be .010 under but .010 under is a pretty rare happening but .001 under is someone common though...

Stumper, tits up LOL. I about spit my drink on my monitor!

It's Sunday morning, are you drinking already Cranky?? :icon_jook:[/QUOTE]non alky drink. When I worked grave yards I stopped at a convenience store when I got off on my last GY and stopped in for some gas and beer and the clerk mentioned that I was starting early. It's my Friday afternoon so STFU lol.

That is correct.

The Bs were simply a double stamp from the factory which is common.

What date would " 1.2 25 2 " correspond to??

I don't think any part of that line is a date code, non of it corresponds with the 10,000 day calender. Like I said I have read that those numbers may denote details of the upper engine.

It is not supposed to be from the 10,000 day calander, it is supposed to be a simple mont and dat calander date.

The link opens to a page requesting sign on to a Google account - which doesn't work if you don't have one. Can you link direct to the photo?

I have a Gmail or Google account and still couldn't open the pic....

does this work?

Yes. It's a bit hard to make out the detail. First line you say is aN "E" (looks like a "C")
Second line I can't make out much. Third line looks like 10 25 2? I wonder if there is an accidental dimple punch between the 1 and 0? If that's the case I would read it as October 25th - not sure how to decipher the 2 at the end.
