OK, so I bought a new coil, ran great for a few days!! I had dropped the tank, and cleaned it out!! I then reinstalled it with new grommets and hoses! Tried to test it out, and now it didn't start!!:angryfire: Found out once again no spark!! It ended up being a bad Distributor!! Went to the auto parts store, told them i had a 1966 Belvedere with a 383, the Distributor they gave me didn't fit,:angryfire: the shaft was to short!! Went back, told them i had a 1966 Belvedere with a 440, and yes the Distributor did fit!!:headbang: So, dose this mean i have a 440?????

Also i need to get a kick down cable for the trans, problem is i don't know what trans i have to order the new kick down. So how do i figure out what trans and motor i have??

You most likely have a 440, that distributor fits 413, 426,440 ,n Hemi , all big block RB family engines.I would say since you have a big block it would be safe to say your trans is a 727.

Does the distributor hold down go against a block of metal or a rib of metal? If its a block its an RB and the engine size will be stamped on it. If its a rib its a B and the engine size will be stamped on a flat area under the distributor.

If its a 413, 426 or 440 it will have this block. If not its a 361 or 383 or maybe a 400.

Thanks everyone for all your help. So yes it dose have that block on the Engine, so i guess we figured out that it is a Big Block RB :headbang:, not sure which one yet tho!! But now i have a new question, my starter has been sounding pretty bad, but today it went out!!:angryfire: So i know its a monster of a starter under there!! And i heard i can get a smaller starter, that's off of a Dodge Dakota 1987 or something that would bolt right up!! Anyone know about this, or if its another vehicle??

I'm using a starter off a 93 Dakota. You will have to remove the piece that the wires hookup to,so it will work on your car. Works fine on my 500 stroker.

If its an RB the displacement is stamped right on that block. You might have to scrape some paint off to read it but it should be there.

The mini starters from the V6 and V8 trucks will work but I don't know about any of the others. Good starters and will start up high compression engines too.

Does anyone know the yr of the dokata he needs the starter from to work on his bb or what specs does he need to say to oreilly

So today i pulled the Engine and trans, and the number on the block is, 2536430-7! so anyone know what it is i have here?? heres a quick pic!!

And another Question, anyone know where i can find some afordable headers for this 1966 Belvedere?? Dont think these r gonna cut it!! lol

it's a 440- 1966-1972 based on the casting...

It's a late '70 casting 440, probably came out of a '71 model year car. If that #3 piston is at TDC it's a low compression (8:1) engine.

You can buy a brand new one from 440Source for about $70. It is not worth going to a junkyard to get a questionable one that may not work. I bet if you check the parts stores for on for a Dakota it will be more than 440Source.

440 Source is $99.95, I got mine from Auto zone with a life time warranty. Just checked and they have it for 64.99 + 47.00 core ,no shipping charge and a life time warranty. 93 v-8 dakota.

Thanks guys, yea i just got one from O'Reilly, life time for about $80 + $45 fore the core. so not to bad. Another question tho, anyone no where i can get headers for my 1966 Belvedere??
