What is a 1968 coronet 500 vert worth in daily driver condition, 383/auto no console. Rust in the rear frame rails, and deck lid. Needs interior cleaned and a new vinyl top. He said the car was originally a 318. Is that even possible? Could this ramcharger hood be original? Or is that aftermarket?

Complete and looking good overall.

How many were made?

Thanks. I cant find much data out there on this car.

The possibility of it being a 318 car is very likely, even though 383s could be had in Coronet 500s if you had the coins to cover it,

The Ramcharger hood scoops are not original, It only came on Super Bees and Coronet R/Ts, it wasn't available till 1969, and was an option.

Now, it could be original scoops from a 69 or 70 model hood, or an original 69 hood, if your Lucky, .....Then again it could be reproduction scoops, I can't tell from the picture,.........by the way all these scoops were painted body color from the factory on all the 69 and 70 models.

I am looking at a photo of the front ends online and something looks off.

Of the two photos below, which one is correct? i notice the trim above the 500 badge and the front bumper both appear to be different on these two '68 500 verts.

The vin is decoding to

Body Type: W = Dodge Coronet / Charger
Price Class: P = Premium
Body Type: 27 = Convertible
Engine: F = 318 230HP 1-2BBL 8 CYL
Year: 8 = 1968

Bottom one is correct , the red on is missing the small pieces above and below the 500 script, the Hood is NOT an original Ramcharger hood, Scoops are mounted in the wrong place !

Here is a picture of the original Ramcharger hood off of my Hemi R/T Vert. still wearing it's original paint.

It shows where the scoops were located, ...they are closer to the edges of the hood ,...that the hood on the red 68 shows them.

Here are the Production numbers for a 1968 Coronet 500 Convertibles.

318-2 , 38 units with 3 speeds, 1,519 units with Automatics...........383-2, 32 units with 4 speeds, 322 units with Automatics............383-4 , 64 units with 4 speeds, 279 units with Automatics.

Thank you all so far.

I am too wondering what that bumper is off of on the red car.

I actually think the front end looks better on the red car, but being not correct it seems would make the car worth a bit less.

Here is some more to chew on:

So the million dollar question is this:

What would be the upper limit of what I should pay for this car?

I understand the bumper now. The 1970 gives the 1968 a bit of toughness where the original was a little weak in the knees. Who would've guessed? Neat. With that change and the straight across lines with the offsets removed, I actually get what they were going after. Neat.

Car is 1 of 1,519 Produced ,

WTF is going on with the pedals ? looks kind funny,

I saw the steering wheel cover:rolling:

other than that it is really a good looking car, I like the color combo.

Here is confirmation of the 1970 bumper:

I yearn for the day when I can go over a 1966-1970 mopar with this sort of knowledge without having to consult the internet.
