What is Best way to get the rear Window out of a 47 Year old B body?

What's best way to get the back window out of a almost 50 year old Satellite? The sealant is like rock hard? Piano wire or is there another type of wire you can use? Other ways? How about guitar string? What is the technique of cutting the sealant with the wire?

Not having a handy piano to strip wire out of, I resorted to a long length of welding wire. I wrapped each end around a wooden dowel to use as handles. It works better with two people (one inside and one outside) when sawing back and forth.

Okay, how do you get it started though without breaking the glass by trying to slip the wire through? I can't find a weak spot to run wire through it as afraid I will break it by putting to much pressure on it. I guess I could dig it out with a knife or drill next to the glass carefully to get a hole started

Yep, an old malleable but strong knife with a wooden (insulating) handle that you can work from the inside
out.
I always found it helpful to heat the blade up with a lighter first, too.
Even still, it might take a few passes to get a hole big enough to pass the wire through.

I always cut out as much as possible with a razor blade first. After that, you can usually find a thin spot to run a wire through.

I busted my last one cutting it out. Someone suggested using a hair dryer to help heat up and soften the old sealant while cutting. I will do that next time for sure. As other have said, carefully remove all the out side sealant possible first and then use some heat when cutting the sealant between glass and channel.

I’ve taken them out using nothing but a razor knife. I used A heavy duty one on the outside, and one of those thin blade plastic handle retractable ones with the blade almost all the way out to use on the inside.

Me too. I have never used a wire.

First of all, cut all the way around the outside of the glass with a sharp utility knife.
Get a couple of "G" or "B" guitar strings. They have to be solid, not wound.
Take a pair of needle nose pliers and from the inside, push the wire, a little
at a time to the outside until you can grab it and pull it through. Now, wrap the ends
around a wooden stick of sorts so you don't cut your hands. Get a friend and take your
time and saw through the sealant all the way around. Use some WD-40 to keep
everything slippery. I have taken many back glasses out this way and never broke
one. You guys just have to "get synchronized" and before you know it, it'll be out!
I have a whole roll of Precision Brand 0.030 Music Wire that I use, and that's enough
for a life time!

I worked in an Automotive Recycling Center ( as the boss called it) he got insulted when people called his business a junk yard.
Any way I always used piano wire and still do to this day on glass that is sealed in with out a rubber gasket.
Rubber gasket I always cut with a razor knife. Takes patience
To start the piano wire I always used a pair of needle nose pliers to push it to the other side

those are all good , especially with the WD40 , the glass is pretty tough its tempered not laminated, I have an air tool with special razor blades for getting around the glass , can even do it from the top with one ,or you can just have a glass guy come do it removal is not that much , here anyway like 25 to30 bucks witch ever way you take lube help tremendously
