What is the correct radio for my 69 RR?

Anyone know which radio is correct for my 69 RR? I think the faceplate is supposed to say Chrysler. Were any 69 roadrunners equipped with 8 track players?

Mine came stock with an eight track. The dash had two speakers in the corners. The fender tag says R22

Mine has the 8 track. It doesn't show in the picture, but just below the numbers it say's "Chrysler Solid State"

Thanks, that's what I was looking for I think. I'm not sure if mine had the 8 track option but i have read if it's equipped with a 3 speaker dash it was an 8 track equipped car. Other than that i am not sure how to determine if it's just am radio or not.

What is on the fender tag? That should tell you.

Mine has a 3 speaker dash as well. I have 2 in the rear, but I'm pretty sure they where aftermarket installation.

If you do not have the 8 Track, you will have push buttons in place of the cartridge door. The 8 track is only AM. Not sure if an AM/FM was available, but simply look at the frequency scale. It's not easy to see, but if you look carefully at the picture I posted you can only see one (AM) frequency scale (same as below). An AM/FM would have a dual scale.

My 68 has the 3 speaker dash. I think Ranger is spot on about the 8 track. Per the 68 FSM there should be a crossover box also. Fader controll for 69s ?? Not shown in my manual. I used an AM only radio and did some creative wiring to get it to work with the crossover box. Sounds like a typical 60s system ( crap ) so I up graded to a modern setup. Gotta have my tunes! The original is sitting on a shelf , Wall Art.

Yeah, my fader control is blocked by the steering wheel in the post #4 picture.
It's visible (just above the shift knob) in this one, so the rear speakers must have been OEM. Probably came with the 8 track option.

Yep. Fender tag or build sheet will tell you what the car should & probably had, when it was built.

Fader was a single rear speaker option for b-body's. It was a separate option that could be added to any radio. Am/8Track, AM/FM, or AM. However it was not an option if you had radio delete. I pulled all of these off of cars back in the 70's and still have them sitting on shelves. The fader control was up on the dash on some Dodges, right next to the radio dash bezel. I have seen some fader controls for 68 Plymouths in the switch bezel next to the wiper buttons. They have a seperate bezel that screws over the switch panel. Just saw one of them yesterday.

I may be wrong on the 5 speakers. Not sure if there is a front center speaker. I looked but can't tell for sure without getting under the dash. The two rear speakers are definitely not OEM, but there is no hole in the rear deck for a single speaker so I suspect that it came from the factory with 2 rear speakers that have been upgraded at some point.

So you are saying that there is only one rear speaker and it is not centered, but off to one side?

Sure wish I could recall the first one I had from the factory. One set off side just doesn't sound right.

Ranger & others. The metal under package tray was already punched out for 2 holes- 1 for spkr, 1 for defog. My '68 had neither option so the "cardboard" had no holes in it, metal tray did have holes.AM radio& 1 spkr centered in dash.

Also 1 hole was running with the body and other was perpendicular to body.

My 69 Roadrunner came from the factory with the am/fm radio. It also had a six-way bucket on the driver's side, no console and column shift. I sold it to a fellow in Baltimore back in 1995. A4 Platinum. Another one I shoud have kept..
