What is this 6 pack set up worth- original mint DC Hussle stuff 440 6pack

Have a chance to buy this but really don’t want to over pay. Mechanical secondary’s direct connection hussle stuff from the 70’s. What’s a real world value on this. Mint near NOS condition. Bought in the late 70’s and used for a very very short period. Will include air cleaner with NOS element from the 70’s too. They’ll need kits because of their age…. Outboards are 4782 and 4783 all on factory Edelbrock 440 intake…. Has the proper Edelbrock linkages too.

Well they are not all that rare to be honest (440 6 pack that is), it wasn't all that long ago that you could buy an entire setup new for like $2800, a friend of mine just sold a used set up that included the Air cleaner for $2500 ( might have been $2200).

That setup does have the fuel lines on the driver side so it will be a bit crowded there.

I believe that's a "six pack triple pumper". They've got accelerator pumps on all 3 carbuertors and no vacuum pods. Metering blocks too, with Ford side float fuel bowls for clearance. I haven't seen all that many.

Value is a tough call. They're not right for a numbers matching car. They're pretty cool for a performance upgrade (I've considered trying them). They would get HORRIBLE gas mileage. For drag racing, I'd say they'd be an improvement.

The triple pumper is truly awesome to drive, especially in a 4 speed. No waiting for the vac to reopen the secondaries after a shift (assuming you’re a person who lifts your right foot). The only carbs I can remember actually flooding a 440 with. These carbs are not common.

that set up is bad ***. you will get the same milage as a normal six pac unless you cant keep your foot out of it. only issue I had with mine was the air filter housing hit the needle adjustment nuts. super tune ability. Just like a double pumper with an extra set of barrels. stock sucks. As far as what to pay? who knows that kind of stuff is going for stupid money, if its as good as its said to be its worth good money. I had never seen those kinds of carbs ever then I had a set up. still have not seen any on a mopar.

I paid $800 just for the same carburetors a year ago. They are in nice shape but need rebuilt too.

Personally, because I'm a purist and want to maintain origionality in the appearance of the car and I do not race the car, to me, the set up is worth zero. Its a shame to have "modified" the origional carbs to their present state. One question I would ask of the supplier is: do you have all the origional pieces and parts?
Depending on one's opinion, this is an excellent example of the old adage (paraphrasing): "if something is not broke, why fix it"? BUT....to each his own volition.....just my opinion of course ....I'm sure others will disagree.

Bob, they aren’t modified original carbs. These were available through direct connection back in the day for modified engines.

They are not modified Bob and are not being sold as an oem vacuum secondary 6 pack set up. I was looking for informed opinions as to its value but it’s clear you have no experience with mechanical secondary carbs as sold by direct connection (Mopar) as a performance upgrade in the late 70’s early 80’s They are as complete as they day they were sold and also have been used for less than 30 hours of use.

Thanks to all that actually throw out a number and for the informed comments.

I’m still on the fence on these and if anyone has or knows of recent sold values for these it is still appreciated to hear from you. Thanks!

those are special carbs, nothing like the originals.

that being said the carbs are 1000-1200 ball park. Intake 350 ish. Plus the linkage.

I run a set but mine are heavily modified.

The center hung floats are designed for cornering. And I’ve found the vacuum secondarys work fine and dump in at the right time when modified. It’s been a while, but I followed the DC manual recommended mods. Also removing the lead plugs and adjusting the idle screws out a 1/4 turn helps immensely. Just my experience. I’ve had my two V code cars since’85.

I remember "back in the day" when you could order these from DC. The only guys I ever saw run them were racers, the progressive linkage could be a bit problematic to get just right but once you did they worked pretty well.

This fantasy that in stock form everything was perfect or as good as it was going to get is just that, fantasy. The factory (every manufacturer) had to make compromises to get cars on the road but the after market was/is there to help. Stock cars while interesting are boring and far from meeting their potential which is why the vast majority were modified almost as soon as leaving the lot (or even before as many dealers offered "speed" upgrades in-house). We would not have companies like Direct connection, Grand Spaulding, etc. without a serious dose of hot rodding desire. Performance and modification are the hall marks and life blood of the muscle car world which is why returning them to stock does not make sense at least to me. I can respect a restored car but it has no interest or appeal. Of course this is just my opinion....

Sorry to get off topic... As to the value, its completely up in the air IMO, seeing that you can a brand new setup from Mancini right now for $2500, I would have to say less than that.

Thanks but these are oem style vacuum secondaries, and just in case you were thinking about it yourself Mancini sells a new set up complete with linkage et al’ for $2500 on the RB and $2400 for a B intake version
