Got my dash for my 70 Roadrunner all taken apart and was wondering what kind of paint to use on it ? I will use a paint gun and the dash is black by the way.
Thanks!

Ok ill bump it. what im trying to figure out is for a 1970 Roadrunner dash, is it gloss , semi gloss Satin or what percent to reduce the gloss ? Anyone ?

the flatter the better, Because when the reflection off the dash bounces back up to the windshield (from the sun or on coming headlights) it totally wipes out your field of view. You can get a flatter from the paint store to mix in what ever color you decide on.

I am trying to duplicate the original black finish it had, any idea as to the correct way to duplicate it. and yes it looks like it has some flat in it but I need to know the correct flatness to it.

why are you painting plastic? not sure, but if it helps, i re-did my glove box inside on my 70 road runner (the metal parts)...with paint in a rattle can " SEMI FLAT". not sure of the brand name but i want to say KRYLON. i got it at advanced auto and the can cap is the flat black with SEMI-FLAT in white letters. it came out better than new. if you want to see it , go to my gallery and its under "deeeluxxin it up" that may help you,,,it may not ! best of luck

I'm thinking RRunner70 is looking to paint the metal part of the dash, the flat part between the windshild and dash pad, not the gauges or glove box. I need to re-paint mine too due to a bit of rust and am looking forward to finding out what to use too.

the only metal part of the dash that is seen, is where the defroster ducts are ...and the glove box inside.if you want to paint these ,,,see post on this thread up there (scroll up) im tellin ya , my glove box inside came out better than new ! it is semi flat satin.

If you are still looking for the correct paint....

wow.......$120 a pint. Yikes.

I used a Sikkens single stage called Rallye Black (semi-gloss)......last couple coats, I dusted from a couple feet back to dull a little and add light texture like the factory.

Only if you need a color other than black! Black is "only" $99.00 a pint.

Eastwood's Chassis-black comes in a couple of different sheens, rattle cans, pints and quarts, and wears like freakin' iron. I've used it on everything from metal dashes to tranny pans (even some actual chassis parts, as the name implies) and its been my "good" black paint for years. I can't vouch for its absolute "correctness", but if durability is a priority, try it.
