Was it the 741,742,489 as far as standard cases? Thanks

X2 on the 489. Also the two pinion sure grip started that year.

Depends on how early or late in that year your car was built. Mine was built in January and came with a 742 case. '69 was a transition year.

yeah I'm sure a few were built with the left over 742 cases from the run thru 1968, probably 90% will/should be 489 cases thou in 1969, you can see right on the side of the carrier, it will have the casting #'s on the front side, the last 3 #'s will be your carrier case type #... check to make sure, what you have before ordering any parts.... someone could have swap out rear ends, with an earlier unit, it's not all that uncommon, even @ the dealership, under warranty replacement, back in them days.... Model years came out in Sept. of the previous year to the model year & they used what they had sometimes, allot of documentation wasn't completely accurate either, early production models have crossover/leftover parts, from the previous model years sometimes....

X2 very early cars in 69 had a 742 also what Budnicks says

Figures.....I get the flippin left overs. LOL Actually I don't mind. Didn't have to deal with a crush seal with the 489 case

Yeah I like the 742 carrier too... some will say it's weaker than the 489 tapered larger pinion, but I doubt it really is... never broke one yet, had nearly 950hp going thru my last 68 RR with N20 & a 3.73:1 742 case... The Aluminum Race Case from Mopar Performance is a 742 Case too, there must be a good reason for using the 742 instead of the 489 case design....

mine has the original 489. PS mine was built in January as well maybe i's the plant?

I'm telling you man, I got the scraps...lol

950HP Bud? Geesh...think I should be ok then...lol

It was with hardened 35 spline Axles, Spool {I hated}, with a truss support welded on the rear, CalTracs... with the stock 31 spline axles, std. street gears & axle housing, I would never have even tried it, but I never broke the 742 Carrier either, sheared a few teeth on Pro Gear rings before thou, with 5000rpm Trans-brake & N20 launches....

on motor only or street tires, I never had an issue with the original 742 carrier, housing, diff & street gears... Once you put N20, or especially slicks or drag radials & trans-brakes, things should/need to be beefed up some, to be safe....
