Recommendations and opinions are welcome as well (this is my first big block/muscle car)

The goal would be 500+ish RWHP that has the ability to see a road course track day.

440source stroker (or a forged 440?) - $2,250
machine work - ?
alum heads - $2000?
top end - ?
cooling?
misc?

Total motor cost - $

T56 tranny swap (used trans) - $3500?
dana 60? (used?) - ?

And what would it typically cost to have someone do the engine rebuild? Otherwise I will do it my self.

what else (ignoring suspension/brakes/chassis/etc.)?

Thanks

You don't need a stroker for 500ish horsepower out of a 440. I have a thread going for a budget 451 right now. Should be $3500 to $4000 carb to oil pan with 440source heads, but I searched for 2.5 years for parts plus I'm reusing a bunch of stuff off my old motor and having a buddy assemble it for a fair price.

If it were me, I'd buy a whole motor with a forged crank and have a shop go through it. Maybe look on moparts for a guy abandoning his engine build. That'll save a heap of money.

He wants 500 plus at the wheels which is close to 600 hp at the crank. Its easier wih the stroker kit. If you are gonna go with a crank , rods and pistons then it makes sense to stroke it. On my eng I use a 440 block and the 4.15 crank which the only place I had to clearence was at the oil pump boss at the intake where the screen goes into the block as it was a little to close for me. You can click the link in my sig and go down near the bottom of the page to read what I used in my 493 pump gas build. Ron
