Something that really irks me is the way the owners of our beautiful classic are regarded at most cruise nights and car shows. I don't think we should lay out a single cent to take our cars there. Why the hell are the people making money from these events charging the entertainment to show up? Mic Jagger would say "Shove it up your ***!" if Madison Square Gardens wanted to charge the Rolling Stones to do a concert there. We spend all are hard money and endless time making a product that "ooh's and aah"s" the general public only to get it up the *** to bring it there. Are we all really that worthless or are we that stupid to let these venues take advantage of us. I don't think so and I think we should start making this plain and clear to the producers. Better we organize our own venues and take any donations ourselves to help pay for our fuel to get there and maybe a little party afterwards. If it's recognition we're after just park your ride on a busy pedestrian street and be there to answer anybodies questions. Better yet, park a few cars there and who knows we might end up being like the street musician with an open guitar case. At the least, and if you agree with me, tell the venue manager how you feel about their utter cheapness and lack of respect for their entertainment.

I don't mind paying at garlits or Turlock cuz it's a car load of people with place to stash food and chairs etc for one flat rate and great parking lol

Majority of the shows I go to are donating proceeds to charitable organizations.

A group called niifty fifties organize a cruise/ every Saturday night. I've talked to the guy that puts it on a bunch of times especially when we were looking for another spot.
Admission is $10, there are usually 300-500 cars, all pre 75. There's a couple food trucks, Icecream truck, music and on Halloween there are 800 cars.
Anyway they have to pay insurance, lease the parking lot from the property mgt with all of the other tenants approval. They give out trophies, spectators are free.
We used to have some local places that were free and were ok...until every new mustang, corvette camaro, challeger started showing uptaking spots that were otherwise reserved for classics just to show off their billet license plate covers and their Air raid cold air boxes...Personally I would pay $20 to keep the new/ old separate...
Which was all the reason we had to find another place, all the new stuff would park next to the show & have their unauthorized show. taking up patrons spaces. They got pissed and blamed it the classics show...Personally If I want to see something newer than 5-7 years old Ill go to a dealrship, I know people are proud of their rides but they don't have a place at a classics cruise other than spectator parking...JM .02..

A few of the shows around here try to charge you to show your car and then charge admission to see the cars. I never take my cars to shows where they charge admission for the general public. It just rubs me the wrong way. I don't have any problem paying $20 or so to a club that's putting on a show. The clubs in my area give a lot of money and time to various charities and I don't mind supporting that. The big national shows are a different subject.

yeah I agree, I have to pay $15 to have people come to look at my car ... let them pay $2 to come in and give me a hot dog for being there

Agree with you, that's why I seldom ever take my car to a show anymore that I have to pay to enter. I now only do free cruise-ins for gatherings or just go out and cruise around in the car with the wife. Not interested in "trophies" anyway. Sometimes if I want to go to a particular show that charges an entry fee, I'll park my car in the lot and just walk in free with the rest of the spectators to look at the "payees" cars for free.

Spectators should be charged admission, not the car owners. :wtf:

I don't pay to take my car to a show, that's just stupid!

By the way 5th Annual Mopar Auto show coming this August 5th in Fort Collins Colorado is always free to participants!!!

That is some funny ****. True too. The guys that buy new cars and want to personalize them are really limited by emission laws.
Imagine in 2050 when guys look back at a "Day Two" 2015 Challenger. It would have aftermarket floormats, a chrome license plate frame, front license plate delete, a cold air intake and maybe tinted windows.....Should be easy to return to stock!

Are you talking cruise nites or car shows? I'll pay to go to a show, full blown show, like the nats, moparfest etc, but not a cruise nite. Around here they have free cruise nites , 50/50 draw goes to charity , door prizes and trophys are donated. vendors are the only ones who pay.

When it comes to cruise nites or car shows, you never really know what to expect especially if they're out of town, you drive for miles and then find out, as the main attraction, you're down in the wallet. I agree on much of the feedback given on this subject but I do not agree that any cost should be occured on the part of the owner. If anything, every owner of a classic should get free admission and maybe a little gas voucher for their time and effort. Think of it as "a cost of doing buisness". Sometimes you have to spend a little to make a bit. Come on guys, it's your talent, your investment, your time and your pride that's being taken advantage of by many of the venues. I image many of us are near "charity cases" ourselves from our dedication to this hobby and we should be. in some small way, justly rewarded for making the whole scene happen even if it is just a bloody free cup of coffee or a coke and a dog when we get there. Do you think the venue manager worries about people leaning over your freshly painted fenders, finger prints all over your ride or cars crammed in with barely three feet between them? They don't give a ****, that's why there's new models crammed in with vintage. they just don't get it. Why don't they exercise some authority over the public they invite to their doo's to protect your investment, some people really need to be tossed off the grounds - cyclists for one. And you never hear a manager say they'll take ownership for mishaps. I won't be doing any outings this year, although I've already received invitations, I get enough compliments at the service station, sitting at stop lights, or parked 50 feet back from the take-out window. Try it and see how many onlookers you attract, and it doesn't cost anyone a cent.
I won't be doing cruise nites or car shows

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone in this thinking. I only go to cruise nights. I will go to the larger shows, but I spent years, and thousands of dollars to build my car. I should be paid to bring it. You won't find this in any other art category.

when I get to a show,,,, my car IS the show, and your car and everyone elses car is the show, I am the one making your show a show and you need not try to make me pay to get in!!!! I WILL turn around and go back to the house, I HAVE done it. Dave

Cruise nights have changed so much, It doesn't seem to be a social gathering of friends with a common interest any more. If you think you should be paid to go to a cruise because you where able to and did spend a ton of money on your car, I think you are in the hobby for the wrong reasons. to be so full of yourself to think the whole show revolves around your car is pretty sad. IMO

We're fortunate that we have a lot of shows around here and they run year round. Some of them are free, some of them charge a $20 or so fee that goes to cover costs, which is fine by me. We built our car to educate people that buying and restoring old cars doesn't have to break your wallet. We have signage that details the car and how much we've spent, how we did what we did, etc., and we really enjoy explaining to people who aren't in the hobby that they can be. Is it worth $20 to do that? We think so.

I think we were refering to car shows. Not cruise ins. At least I was. Cruise night is free around here. They have a 50/50 raffle to support the event. Sadly the cheap bastards rarely want to pony up.

Rick, read the post again. Dave.

Sorry Dave, A little under the weather for the last little while, didn't catch it all, sounded a little self centered the way I read it the first time. This year ain't gonna be no big dollar show car but it will be there black primer and all,3500 dollars total investment and far from finished . I'll gladly pay for every show I choose to go to,Good shows are not cheap to put together and I appreciate the work they do. I'm not a big fan of working for free and anyone who the coordination and intelligence to put together a quality show shouldn't be either

Rick, I traded for my car in 1975, it was rag when I got it, and still is, but what I was trying to infer was that without us, meaning you,me, and the other car guys that parcipatate in these shows stop going, what happens then? no show!!! I did not mean to up your bp, hell my car couldn't carry a one car show, I would not ever try to infer that there was anything speical about my old rag, just another old B. Dave.

Good point! There's a big difference between shows you pay to go to and free ones, namely one has lots of nice vintage cars and the other looks like a mall parking lot with all the new Corvettes, Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers there.
