What's it worth?

I found a 1970 HP2 440 short block that was supposedly rebuilt and a set of 906 heads that need done. I don't have any of the block no.s or any pics but i was looking for some guidance as far as the value of this motor. It also comes with a cast iron 6 pack manifold but no carbs. Any help out there? I haven't seen the motor, I just talked to the seller about it. It is about 100 miles from home so I want to be sure that I have some idea what it's worth. He wants me to make an offer. Thanks.

ci 6 pack manifold is worth around $350-$500 depending on condition (check it for cracks)..
70 hp short block depends, measure the bore if its +30 and looks new it is worth something for sure. I would bring a torque wrench with me and pull a cap to check to make sure it is all new and good. You can tell if they are new, the assembly lube is a dead giveaway, lol.
I would say short block with steel crank, 6 pack rods, balancer, new pistons, would be worth $1500 easy..

906 heads needing to be done are worth a couple hundred at best, they are everywhere, there is a local guy up here trying to sell 2 sets for $100...

So for a good short block, with 6 pack rotating assembly with balancer, the heads, and the ci 6 pack manifold I think $2000 would be fair anything under $1200 is a score...

be VERY careful, what pistons are in there, check the deck height, you dont want a 7 to1 compression 440.

The balancer is missing. Is that an issue?

If it is a 4 barrel engine then no real issue. If it is a 6 pack engine(for real) then the balancer is different. It more then likely a regular engine stuck with a 6 pack intake. Check the internal casting numbers to be sure before making a 6 pack offer. Avoid if using a cast crankshaft unless just a driver and priced righteously.
