if you want to save most pistons are the worst place to start,....... invest in good pistons, I like JEs and Diamonds, they are pricy, but you get what you pay for

I have no experience with Sterling pistons, but if you're doing a stock type rebuild forged pistons aren't necessary. A decent hypereutectic will work just fine and are usually quite a bit cheaper than forged.

71 was pretty much the beginning of the end for high compression.

As mentioned good pistons are worth getting. I ran OE quality cast pistons in my 383 a bunch of years ago and it spent a lot of time at 6000 RPM. The 383 has a really short stroke so I'm thinking that reduced piston speed saved my butt a few times when I saw my tach coming down off of 8000 RPM on a missed shift. Ever hear a BB MoPar sound like a chain saw

Yep, when I revved my 383 Challenger RT/SE to 7800 in first gear once when I was driving while angry. Cost me a blown heater core and barely made it home before losing too much coolant. I decided that wasn't a good thing to do a second time.

General, the best piston is omstly suited to the duties the engine/car will see. If your doing a stock rebuild, then the sterlings (If the correct height and style) will be fine.

Hypuer-U's are great as well. They require the machinest to know that there Hypers so the machineing can be done to suite them, as well as regular cast and forgded.

The Hyper-U's are excellent for regular street duty to a preety pumpin engine. An excellent all around piston.

Fordged slugs are the strongest and most durable under any conditions up to serious race efforts. And the price normaly reflects it.
