What’s up with the F body’s

I have two F body’s and the rotting is in similar places. 76 Aspen R/T and a 76 RR and neither of them have been up north. Beats the sh$t out of me.

Just general poor build quality and cheaper materials that is in all mid to late '70s cars.

Hope you save them. I love F bodies but haven't been able to find one around me, it seems most were crushed or completely rotted into the ground.

Yeah both have great interior, buckets console with slap stick and A/C but the dang bodies will need lots of work.

Question: I cannot get the the phillip head screws out that hold the turn signal reflector lens in my front grill. I have been hitting the screw with an impact screw driver but to no avail. I do not want to hit to hard or break the white metal reflector holder. Any ideas?

Just don't take it off if you don't have to.

I remember reading somewhere Chrysler had a recall on some of the earlier models for rust issues. The '78 and '79s I've had came with galvanized front fenders because of this.

Not to offend. But if you wait till it rusts out more. They might fall off.

These cars had alot of rolled under metal. Dirt build up. With moisture traps the water. Then starts its process. These were rusting out not long after they were new.

Sorry to say, but I worked on these garbage, err... cars, back in the day. Should've stayed with the A bodies.

Can you cut a slot with a dremel and use a flat screwdriver?

F Bodies are going to be really rare, since so few will be left..... They were not one of Mopar's better products.

My first Mopar was an F-Body Road runner.
Nice car...360 with an A-body 4 speed in it.
It came from down south so the floors were original, fenders were good.
The trunk extensions needed patches. I put fiberglass bumpers on it.

Drill the heads off then remove the lens, then grab the stud with good vise grips and twist back and forth until it gets loose. Slowly increasing your turn as it loosens

I've had this one since January of 78. The fenders did rust and they were recalled. It was painted in 86. The drivers door skin was replaced. Other than a few pin holes around the tail lamps that were repaired it still is clean. Lacque paint has seen better days though. Do for a repaint and a bumper tuck.

Worked at a Dodge dealer in PA when these came out.We were selling between 60 to 100 a month. Yes I owned one. Leaked water everywhere.It was a good car but rusted away in 3 years.We would drill holes in the trunks to let the water out.Chrysler sent us truckloads of replacement fenders.Years later I bought a 80 Volare' wagon at Carlisle and drove it back to Nevada.
I would like to find another super clean 80 Aspen or Volare'. I like them allot.

Not many of them where exactly.....erm?.....pretty... either. Not compared to all the B cars at least.

I got interested in Fs about 4 years ago, because I love learning about new things (cars). I sold my last one a few months ago. A Tx RUST free slant Volare. I want NO MORE Fs!!!!!!
That F crowd is a great group of people, the 76-7 cars were the worse to rust as said above, back in the NE most wind up as parts cars or guys will have to replace even frame rails. All parts are dirt heap except those POS plastic grills!
They are like most all post 71 Models, poor value. Cheap cars to play with but expect bad rust. Only ones worth much are SuperCoupe, Ttops, kitcars.
