wheels and tires help needed

i have a 70 superbee i am getting ready to finish...

what would be the best wheel and tire sizes for street use....nothing period correct , just looking to optimize grip, handling and performance....\


i need size recommendations and specific tires and/or wheels as well, to finish up this plum crazy/black color scheme...

I have used on two of my Road Runner's (a 1973 and a 1970) a 15x8" rim on the back with 275/60R15 tires. I think they look really good, and fit has never been a problem - no rubbing or issues. For the front, I have used 235/60R15 on 15x7" rim.

I attached a couple of pictures. Sorry they are not really good, but hopefully they provide some help. I can take a more detailed picture if you like.

My custom 15x8 rims came from Wheel Vintiques. They are fine, and I have had no problems with them.

thanks for the specs, they look great....i was considering a more modern look...with maybe 17-18 wheels, but i have not seen many examples of this on a classic car....

certainly i am concerned it will ruin the look...

does anyone know how significant the improvement in handling will be with a larger wheel/lower profile tire? and how sever the ride quality will get impacted?

Go buy yourself one of these Percy Wheel Rites and take out the guess work, stuff some meat under the fenders and go tear it up.

"Percy's has engineered a wheel measurement tool that allows anyone to find the correct offset, backspace, diameter, width, and tire profile in a matter of minutes."
You should be able to order the right wheels and tires to fill the wheel well without any rubbing problems (assuming your springs are good).
You can also go to Tire Rack's site and enter your vehicle and it pulls options for you to choose from with different size wheels. It even has a veiw on vehicle link to show you what they look like. Although I think for 70 B-Body your option is only RR.

I work at a tire shop.
If you want to go with larger rims,you will have to go with a lower profile tire in order to maintain a decent tire outer diameter.
Lo-Pro's will give you more "road feel" --more of a harsh ride in the city.
Remember the bigger the rims,the more reciprocating weight,more stress on the brakes and suspension.Make sure they are up to snuff.
However handling is improved and rides smoother on the highway.

There has been many debates here and other forums about modern wheels on classic Mopars.All rim and no sidewall can make or break the car's overall look.

Plus wheels are such a personal choice--ask three guys--get three different answers.
Wheels should compliment the car--not overtake it.

To get the best of both the classic look and modern rubber,there are some classic styled rims available in 16 and 17 inch rims.
17" Ansen slots would be killer on the Bee.

I went in the middle since I can no longer find 14 inch tires for my wagon.
I went with a classic style wheel in a 16X8 and 2356016 on all four corners.
27 inches tall.
Fills out the wheelwell,still have some sidewall,and rides smooth and not harsh in the city.

Nice looking for a C7 Car.

On my C7 70 Charger R/T i`ve got a set of 15x7 ralley rims with 245/65/15 Goodyear Eagle GT+4. There is lots of room & the car sits up real nice.

I would not recommend it since the inside rim lip may hit the upper control arm/ball joint.
15X7 with 4" back space is tight but will clear.

The Ansens are produced by American Racing and ARE available in 17 inch
Just have to search for them..

Yes the 17 inch Salt Flats do look cool and would be my other choice should the slots not be found.

Please, please,please do not put those rubberband tires on that Bee. Get some Keystones or Cragar SS in 15" and put the biggest meats on it that will fit. I own a 70 Bee that is under construction and also owned another way back in the 70's. I had both of these wheels on my old bee and have Cragar SS for the one I have now. Do not have tires yet (far from ready for that) but will be big with a lot of sidewall when I do. These Mopars look best with the old school look. Hope this helps and show us some pics when done.

i like the magnums, but to get 17" wheels you have to get billet vintiques and the prices are insane...


turns out...right now i have Drag lites, 15X10 rear 15X 7 fronts

they don't look bad, but since the car has a purple and black theme, i though a wheel with some black on it would look better... there are not many choices in 17" ...i would prefer a little better hadlling of the lower profile tire...

the car is being finished right now...so unless i can find some good solution... i will stay wit the draglights... until i find a wheel that complements the car/paint scheme...
