Wheels and tires please help!!!
Ok guys I'm wanting to to run a 17 inch wheel and tire and I want it stagerd. Does anybody know what is the widest and what offset or backspacing I can run in the rear and what I can run in the front? I'm looking for a black five spoke wheel with a polished lip. Car is a 1967 gtx clone.

Well, I have a 66 Belvedere and there is not too much room in the rear for tires. You are probably looking at 4.25" back space.

Do you think I could get a 9inch wide wheel to fit back there?

I think a 9 would be very tight and if it actually does fit probably would not be good on the street. You also have to remember the cars are not that close tolerance wise. What may fit on one side may not even be close on the other. I'm pretty sure I can get an 8" tire all around on my 66, which is my next move.

Somewhere on this forum I have some pictures of my green 66 showing the 7" tires and how they fit under the car. It might be buried in another thread.

I too have noticed some cars gives up more room on one side than it does the other. :edgy:

Wow this is not going to be enjoyable to end up doing a mini tub in order to get what I want under the a** end of this thing! But even then I would have to relocate the darn spring location!!! This sucks!!

Welcome to the 66/67 B bodies. Here's my 66 with a 7" tire on a 4.5"? BS wheel - whatever the factory steelies are. LT side shows the original sagging spring and the RT side is with new 3700 lb SS springs. Tires are 235 - 70 - 15. I could not fit standard 15 x 7" Centerlines or an old set of slot mags with the common 3.75" BS.

Here is a 67 I saw in Portland last year with 315 - 60 - 15's. Springs were moved in and almost rubbing on the gas tank lip but I think the body was unaltered or minimally altered. Anyway, whatever part was in the way was moved and the other was not. Note the wheels. They are all backspace with the drum totally inside the rim!
