I need a new under hood wiring harness for a 71 Dodge Charger with a 440 that I am converting to electronic ignition. Car did not come with any harness. Any suggestions on who to buy from? Thanks!
if you buy from yearone make sure it is in stock. ASK THEM bought a harness from them and 4 months later told them I want my money back because they still didnt have it. I have bought from here http://www.evanswiring.com/catalog.htm
The most correct harnesses are manufactured by M&H, but Year One has them under contract. Year One also sells these harnesses to other vendors including Classic and Mega Parts. As was mentioned above, finding the harness in stock is hit and miss. Not uncommon to wait two to four months for a harness to be made up.
Evans provides the harnesses as well for certain applications. Not quite as correct but works as planned and is less expensive.
If an aftermarket universal harness is usable, you might want to check into a Painless kit.
I bought all my harnesses from Classic Industries, and as mentioned above I am pretty sure they were manufactured by M&H.
They also do electronic ignition type harnesses for various engine types etc., but I did not look into any of that for my '69 Coronet.
I am pretty sure you will find a harness there for your car as well.
Regarding quality of the M&H harnesses, they are good quality, correct size/length, neatly made with all correct colour coding.
Price is high for "just a bunch of wires" but to me it's worth it. I replaced all my harnesses with the M&H ones.
I'm pretty sure I have a used '71 Charger Evans harness with the electronic ignition update built in. If you're interested, I'll go up to the garage attic and check. It should be in great shape. I may also have an extra used M&H, but it's still in the car. It's only about three years old, but I bought another new one to go with a fresh repaint.
