Where to get a good transmission

I have a 73 roadrunner, with a fairly stout 408 stroker motor in it. The trans in it broke when I first put it into gear. I don't have any real trustworthy transmission shops in my area. So Id like to get some recommendations on on-line transmission builders. I have been leaning toward TCI but a couple of people said their quality is hit or miss. I don't want to drop a grip of cash and wind up with garbage.... But i also cant afford a monster trans at $4K. Any input would be great and appreciated, thanks!!
