Recommendations on what you guys use on a big block 727 trans? Factory manual says “Transmission Fluid AQ-ATF-2351A, Suffix A” and Part Number 1843314.

I’ve used Amsoil Full Synthetic in an older GM Turbo 400 trans and liked it - but is $11 a quart. What do you guys recommend for a 727? Thanks!

If you want synthetic fluid, the Mopar spec ATF+4 is widely available. I’ve seen it at my local Wal-Mart. If you’re more of a traditionalist, Dexron III is also easily found.

I found that gallons of Mopar ATF-4 were pretty reasonable from the local Chrysler dealer.

I've always used type f fluid. Ford spec, less slippery than dexron, firms up shifts, less clutch wear because of less slipping. Actual type f is getting harder to find.

Easy to find ATF+4 at wally's

Last time I bought +4 from ChinaWorld it was 6 bucks a quart.......

I use Valvoline synthetic Dex/Merc. 440'

ATF+4. A couple months ago I found it on amazon for $5/qt and free shipping.

atf+4
want better only choice is Quatrosyn
the late gil younger said do not use type f in anything where you want the clutches to last except where it was oem
Like the power steering in my crown vic
no dex Vi either
+4 is better than any Dex
+4 Type III synthetic with a mandatory additive package
better hot and cold and life

I've run everything from Wallmart Dexron to expensive synthetics. They all worked fine. I would suggest a synthetic if your setup regularly runs trans temps hotter than normal. Such as towing heavy loads, very loose converter on the street, using a trans blanket.

As a dealer, I switched to AMSOIL Super Shift , type F in my 727 , with no issues. I did notice firmer shifts, not jarring.

ATF +4 is good.

I haven't seen how the different ATFs compare to each other.
Old School, I was told to run Type-F (less slippery so harder shifts), but then was told it does not lubricate as well, and to go back to Dextron?
I think if the trans is built with the High Performance clutches / steels the ATF +4 is a more stable trans fluid and seems to work fine.

Thanks everyone for your input. I went with the genuine Mopar ATF+4. Once I use fluids I like to stick with the same continuously. Thanks!

Type F is old school thinking for a rebuilt Mopar trans, before ATF+4 was even around IIRC.

I think the main thing is- don't mix.

If you have a clean trans build, pick one and stay with it.

If you have a factory build, use ATF +4
