Which would be a better engine to build a stroker engine out of a 318 or a 400?

The car weighs in about 4000 lbs. and power everything. 1978 Cordoba

400. Bigger bores for better breathing, more cubes when you are done.

The weight diff. is not to be even thought about between the two engines.

The 318 can go to 392 cubes easy.
The 400 can go to 500 - 512 easy.

More cubes with more money. But with the ready to go off the shelf kits that are inexpensive, which one would you rather have? 392 or 500+? Considering it is going in the late B body, I'd go 500 and never look back or think twice about it. IMO, this is a no brainer, but to each there own.

I have been at 440 source looking at their kits and heads their prices seem reasonable. I can get a complete 400 for $250.00 which is only $50.00 more than a 318. looks like it will be time for me to get parts.

that's pretty much a no brainer!, you could build a 451,470,500 or a 512 out of the 400,
500hp w/almost 600 ft pounds of torque, without even breaking a sweat!, and that would be a mild build w/a hydraulic cam.

440 source, $1,997.00 rotating assembly, ask for Ed in sales he'll help you out.
