So I just bought a 68 Charger. Body is amazing and has been completed. Someone stole the entire interior so its empty inside. Originally a 318 automatic car. Drivetrain is acurate but not number matching and does not run. I have bucket seats (need recovered) and a center counsel thats it!

So my question to the learned members out there, do I try to restore as original...... or do I keep the look but update with new technology, Disk brakes, A/C, fuel injecion etc?

Welcome. The question is, "What did you buy it for?" If you bought it for yourself, then do it the way you want. If you bought it to SELL, then make it "like original", cause it will be worth more

I think the two question that need to be answered first are

1) what are your intentions with the Charger
2) What is your budget

If it was me either way I would go with a stock interior.
Its just damn sexy

There's an old saying, "It's only original once." Obviously, original is usually worth more (not always). Speaking for myself, not most people, I will tell you what I would do, not what you should do. On a car that is no longer original, I like the stock appearance with modern upgrades. There's not much room for improvement on the original interior, though.

You have to ask yourself a big question...If your gonna keep it build it the way you want it...Gonna sell it keep it stock...A 318 matching numbers car is not worth as much as a non matching 440 4peed car...
I,d rather push my PLYMOUTH than drive a ford....

It's what I'm doing to my Coronet.
Keeping the exterior and interior stock, just updating the suspension, braking, steering, and transmission with an overdrive unit.

welcome...
heres my take
I am restoring a 69 sport satellite convert 383 car 1 of 41
so I am going to restore it as original as possible

I also have a 73 dodge challenger that originally was a 318 car with console rallye dash B5 blue exterior and a B7 interior
it now sports a 383 six pack, and a white interior once my satellite is done it will be Go Mango with 72 bumpers and a white bumble strip
IMHO my challenger is a nice car but it 's a 73 run of mill 318 car with no real collector value to it, even bone stock original it will never command any big money

Great looking car. I say since it was only a 318 car throw some modern upgrades into the car. I'd start with disc brakes. Great benefit of the modern world.

Keep the appearance original, and tune up the drivetrain and suspension...thats the most beautiful body style Ma Mopar created...My 2 cents.

Thanks for all the advice. I ran the vin# and have discovered it was not a 318 from the factory but a 383 4 barrel, but since the motor is long gone, I think I am going with a 440 and updated drive, leave the interior and exterior stock. I will post pics as I go.

Thanks

wise decision!

I look forward to seeing the progress, keep us posted , nice charger any way you go!
