Going to order wheel studs with my tires as mine are looking rough. What size is stock for a 65 Belvedere II, drums front and back. Thought 1/2" but what thread count and length? I also plan to switch to the same thread on pattern for both sides to avoid someone over torquing/breaking mine.

Summit has 1/2" x 20. Any idea what length is standard for the front and back? Also what length are some of you running in back with the steelies that are much longer for that S/S look? Thanks guys.

The 'racing' studs come in 3" lengths as standard and stockers have 7/8" of thread and are 1 1/2" over all measured from the bottom of the head. I would assume the fronts are about the same....

Thank you! Needed that front measurement.

I could see the fronts being 1/16th or so longer (stock) since front drums are usually a tad thicker than rear drums. Front studs are different than rears because they hold the hub to the drum. Other words, they are tight to the drum and then inserted into a fixture to flatten out the shoulder to the drum. I can't remember what that's called but if you look at an original stocker, you'll see what I'm talking about. The race studs are not that way so your drums and hubs will not be together tightly like they were designed. It's also a good idea to put a good tack weld on the studs on the back side of the hub on the race studs.

I believe that's called swedged.

Yup....just couldn't think of the word when I posted. It's a pretty common word in the machining world too lol. Sure hope this isn't any indication of what I'll be like in another 10 years....

Thanks guys. When I get the wheels and drums off this weekend I'll see what you're talking about. Got wheel studs today for front and back, tires will be here tomorrow.

I'll tell you what - I had about 6 months of losing words I knew in my brain after I had general anesthesia for my hip replacement last December. I finally started to feel back to my usual self around June. That stuff kind of scrambled my brain for awhile. But I wouldn't have wanted to have that surgery without it! :)

Posted in my other thread but yes, when I pulled the front wheel the studs appear to have been brazed with something on the outside of the drum all the way around the stud. Too tiny of a bead to be welded.
