Couple questions. I have a 69 Coronet and a 73 Dart. They both appear to have the same 3 speed wiper motor.
Can I replace one with the other ? The wipers on the Dart don’t work. I believe it’s the motor or the linkage popped off.
The motor makes a noise, but no wiper movement. Once the motor is removed how involved is it to remove the linkage attached to the motor and can send someone please illustrate what I need to do here there ?

So the motor is part of the entire assembly. Could be your linkage between the wipers of could be the gears inside the motor assembly. If it is the gears they sell replacement parts and a kit. I just rebuilt my 69 3 speed unit.

Correction, I thought they were both the same on each car. They are not. This is the one I want to replace from a 73 A body. Is this 3 speed ? It makes a low growling sound. I assume you have to tear the whole damn dash apart to access any linkage ? How can I test the motor itself ?

Do I remove these 3 screws to access the gear ?

As far as two or three speed. What is your switch? If your switch is three speed I’m sure that motor is probably three speed. From what I understand the three speed motors lay up against the firewall like that and the two speeds stick straight out from the firewall. I think the linkage is pretty far up in there. You might be able to get a flashlight and look up in there if your heater box isn’t in the way. if your motor is turning in the arms are not turning you may be able to try to hold one of the wiper arms and move it back-and-forth. I would think if the linkage is either disconnected or if the motor/gears inside the unit are stripped then you should be able to turn the wipers by hand

If I grab one wiper and move it by hand a foot or so. The opposite wiper responds the same. Under that circumstance I believe the linkage is not the problem. It’s kind of hard to tell if a it’s 2 or 3 speed switch because the switch isn’t a rocket type switch like the b bodies. It a round knob. I believe it’s 3 speed. Where do you buy the rebuild kits ?

So either the gears inside are stripped (did you pull that cover off?) or the linkage came off where it connects to the motor. I would check the gears before you buy new ones. You will see the big white gear and the work gear on the motor.

Good news. I pulled the motor out 5 or 6 inches and I can see that the linkage is not attached. The nut and the little bracket that the linkage attaches to is not there. That appears to be good news.
Does the motor have to be mounted (grounded) to test it ?

Nice job. Yes there is a thin strap that grounds the motor to the body.

Yep, she needs to be grounded. Its working. Just need the attachment arm and nut and it should be good to go.

Wow, It might be humanly impossible to get this reattached.
