who restores vent windows?

Vent window assemblies on my '70 Coronet R/T hardtop are complete but pitted. I would like to send them off somewhere to be restored, does anyone offer this service? I would rather not attempt to remove or reinstall the window itself so I'd like to send/receive them as completed units. If anyone in Central/Northern California does this service I could just deliver/pick them up in person.

I know there are repros out there but they all seem to be missing the back vertical piece (or I could just be blind). And they come with assembly required, exactly what I don't trust myself to do properly.

The problem is the pits....You can find a good one that are not pitted to get chromed. It will save you a lot of $$...

Yeah, after reading a few more threads it seems like finding a place to fix the "pits" properly is an enormous part of the cost. I think I'll go with repros.

Indeed. I guess I'll have to buy these parts and have a local body shop try to install them. Luckily I know a good shop who has worked on my GTO (they actually fixed my Endura bumper correctly, anyone with a GTO knows what a nightmare that is). I need to get one of my front bumpers rechromed (nasty scratch) and adjusted anyways.

Just looked over his instructions again... ehh, I guess I can give it a shot. It's not like I can die if I screw up...

Ugh, I just can't pull the trigger on this almost $900 shopping cart. And then there's the assembly and the taking-apart/putting-back of half my doors and the associated risk to pristine paint/door windows/other components. Chrome is a bit pitted but not badly so, gonna try the tricks I read about online to see if I can reduce that. Existing glass and rubber is fine, just needs cleaning. Only thing in bad shape is the small handle on the inside. Does that thing come off independently?

Best bet to clean the chrome is 0000 steel wool with a good chrome cleaner/polish. The upright strip is stainless not chrome.

The inside handle has a roll pin holding it on, drive that out and it comes off.

I thought the kits from Tony's Parts was under $600?

It is, but given the amount of grief involved in replacing a vent window you may as well also do the glass, rubber, and the strip on the side of the door window that supposedly always breaks.

A roll pin, lovely. That's what those two small rusted dots on either side of the handle represent. Well, there is zero chance that's coming out with the vent window installed. Might try to hit this handle with chrome-like paint since the finish isn't salvageable.
