going to look at a 1962 d100 flare side with a poly and a four speed manual. would a 440 mount to that trans. no numbers on trans till i get a look, but effects my cash offer. guessing a new bell at least d100.jpg

sorted out with the search engine. still going looking to truck tomorrow just not willing to spend as much on it

The trans should fit the CORRECT big block 4-speed bellhousing, but the current bellhousing will not fit properly. If it is an original pre-64 trans, the driveshaft could be a flange mount instead of a slip yoke. The driveshaft might also have to be shortened, but you will have to see.

If it's an original 62 4-speed it very well may be a T-10 transmission. Bell housings for a BB and T-10 combo can still be found but are a little scarce and kinda pricey.

Also ... with a different bell housing the clutch linkage may require some modification(s).

Going in with some knowledge , cash, a magnet, and flashlight . Is the manual trans worth much? I have a warmed over 318 poly and it's 727 with a shift kit that came out of my 64 440 sedan. Also have a low mileage 440 out of a 72 Newport(no trans) and both are screaming at me about taking up floor space in Cassa Del Carro. Thanks for the T10 info, didn't get that info from the search engine.

Not for me but a ok truck . dude ruined the hood this morning (forgot to latch it two bolts pull on each bracket creased it all across , lucky he didn't bust the glass) 1st 2nd gear forks shot , side rails has cancer. poly is tired. maybe someone else would be interested . he is spooked with the hood flip at speed and a gas leak at the fuel pump , probably take a verry low offer. http://sarasota.craigslist.org/cto/5245595546.html
