Will the molded plastic sail panels from a 73/74 RR/Satellite fit a 73/74 Charger hardtop (non SE)?

Nope.

Charger is longer.

pictured sail panels are 71/72

I THINK 71/72 Plymouths are the same than 73/74 Chargers. Quarter glass opening seems to be the same at least

Didn't the OP say 71-72 Charger?

73/74 Charger and Road Runner/Satellite sail panel covers are the same size, and do interchange, but the inner design is different. The area in the center is rounder on the Charger and more square on the Road Runner, but they will fit.

73-74 Road Runner, Satellite, and some 71-72 Charger, panel covers are the same physical size. In fact, I have covers from a Charger in my 74 Road Runner as we speak.

Panels that do not interchange are the ones for some of the 71/72 Chargers, as seen in the photo of my covers in your original post. These have the long, forward, curve on the front, while the later B bodies were straight up and down at the front. I was told by the person I bought those from that they were for all B bodies, but when I took them out of the box I immediately saw that the rear part would fit, but the front is totally different.

Look at this panel here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1972-DODGE-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a82d4a290&vxp=mtr Notice the front of it is straight up and down and not curved. These are the panels used on the 73/74 Plymouth Road Runners and on 73/74 Chargers unless you have one of the Chargers that has the curved sail panel like the ones in the photo you posted. Here are what the Road Runner panels look like: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-71-...Parts_Accessories&hash=item51ba8f767f&vxp=mtr. Like I mentioned before, they are the same size and shape overall, but the accent area in the center is a slightly different shape. Most people would never notice the difference, but I guess that depends on how original you want the car to be. My car has Road Runner, Satellite, Charger, and Aspen parts used in the interior. :)

I don't think 73/74 plymouths fits 73/74 Charger... quarter opening is allmostr straight up, Chargers are curved like 71/72 plymouths.

73/74 Plymouths loooks similars to 72 Chargers SEs, but Chargers should be longer due the body plug filler, so make to look smaller the quarter glass

Bottom line is check the front edge of the panel. If your quarter window area where the front of the panel mates to the car body is straight, a 73/74 Road Runner panel will fit. If the front is curved, it won't.

Now that we've likely confused the Hell out of Montclaire, let me ask this: has anyone seen a molded plastic sail panel cover for any year charger that is shorter than the ones shown in these posts? I know I haven't. The only panel covers I've seen that are shorter are the ones maid of cardboard that have to be covered in fabric and are not molded plastic.

Of the molded plastic ones I've seen, there are three types. These are for Chargers:

71/2 Plymouth and 73/4 Charger non-SE have the same shape quarter glass but 71/2 Plymouths never had plastic panels. Also the rear of the sail panel is different between the two.

I've never seen a molded plastic cover for a 71/72 Plymouth either. As far as I know they were all cardboard covered with headliner material.

Interesting!!!never knew that about 71/72 Plymouth where cardboard panels!!!

would like to see one, to know HOW THEY ARE BUILT in case my 74 Charger gets broken ( they are dry, easy to get craked ), specially how they are made all around the quarter glass opening!

I think he posted those just for reference about what is what he meant about sail panels, but not being specific about that shaped panel

I think these might be what I am looking for. They do not look like 73/74 plymouth. I think the middle pic above might be charger SE? There is a lot of confusion regarding these. There must be a trim piece that attaches to the leading edge of the fiber board version?

Those look like 71/2 Plymouth and yes there is a metal molding on the front that holds the glass seal.

I hear ya on the dry and easy to crack, I have 3 sets of 73/74 sail panels that are cracked or broken. Not sure why Chrysler made them from different plastic then the door, lower quarters, kicks, and a pillars.

I wanted to post an update on this thread; I was able to find a set of the forward metal trims in a local yard. Some people have claimed that the standard top 73/74 Chargers only came with the molded plastic panels but this car (73) had the metal trim/fiber board sail panels and they looked 100% original.

I also grabbed a pair of 71-72 plymouth trims (I found these before I came across the Charger ones). They are slightly different but pretty similar - from memory, the 71-72s are more slender and sculpted, while the 73/4s are bulkier with a coarser grain pattern. I can mock them up eventually and see if the 71/2s would work for 73-74 hardtops.

If anyone in the aftermarket community is listening, they either need to repop the metal trims or reproduce the plastic sail panels.

You mean the metal strip on Sail panels? They are included on the weatherstrip. Is in fact the weatherstrip itself.

Panels, needs to be definitelly reproed ( not the cardboard pieces offered ).

If they are 71/72 plymouth, they actually looks like plastic and not cardboard

I'm still wondering about how they can be cardboard with all the molded shape they have, specially on the quarter glass opening and headliner mold "ear"
