Will a 71/72 Charger Grille and Bumper Work in a 72 Coronet Station Wagon?

So a buddy of mine picked up a pretty decent 72 Coronet station wagon. Its F7 green with green interior. Power comes from a 2 barrel 318 that he plans to swap to a 440 and make a fun family hauler.

He wants to know if the Charger bumper and grille are a direct replacement or even if it will work with light modifications?

I did find a pic of a 73/74 Charger with a Coronet grille in it but no back story.

He kind of wants to make it look like this. Demon scoop and all.

Well I'd say pull a tape measure and start there ! It looks very close ! I would assume mounting would be extremely close to !
I kind like the bumper on it maybe make your own grill !
If it does fit let me know I might do the opposite put that bumper on my charger !
If you need a tape pulled on a charger bumper I can help

I have Chargers to measure. I have a grille assembly as well but he hasn't got the car home yet.

I also like the open bumper but the grille is hideous in the Coronet.

I bet the Charger bumper bolts right on,the valence might need to be tweaked. I bet a bulge Charger hood would fit too. I bet a 70 Charger grille would fit in the Coronet bumper too,if you wanted a undivided grille on a third generation Charger.

I know several Chargers getting 71/73 coronet bumpers ( have couple of pic of some of them ). Now, dunno about what job has being done on brackets or holes

The Charger hood would be pretty close on the fenders, both hoods are very flat near the edges, but the forward leading edge of the hood would leave about an inch gap between the hood and the bumper. The solution would be to either modify the fenders, and slot the bumper bracket bolt holes to raise the bumper an inch,or cut the leading forward edge off the Coronet hood and weld it to the forward edge of the Charger hood.

The 71-74 bumpers have that centre part that would have to be blacked out or cut out if ya want it like in the pic. 70 doesn't have that.

The 71,72 Coronet front bumper is like the 71-74 Charger front bumper without the center section. Unlike the 70 Charger front bumper, it is flat on the top edge to fit the overhanging front fenders and hood of the third generation Charger. I think a 70 Charger grille would fit into the 71,72 Coronet front bumper, and would be a full open grille with hidden headlights. I have an extra 70 Charger grille, and if I can find a Coronet front bumper, I would set up one to see how it looks on a third generation Charger.

So I think we may be lost in translation.

He wants to put a 71/72 style bumper and grille in place of the original 1972 Coronet bumper and grille.

I did notice the leading edge of the fenders and hood where thicker on the wagon than the charger.

I was talking about the wagon, and or using the 71,72 Coronet front bumper on a a third gen Charger too. You could also leave the bumper thats on the wagon, and swap out the grille with a 70 Charger grille, or even a 68 Coronet grille and headlight bezels.I believe that the 71,72 Charger front bumper assembly would fit on the wagon, but I think that you would have to slot out the mounting holes to drop the assembly down to compensate for the thickness of the fenders. The other option is to put a Charger bulge hood on the car,and modify the tips of the fenders to match the hood. This may require modification of the top of the valence pan to meet the underside of the bumper assembly. I am considering putting a 70 Charger grille into a 71,72 Coronet front bumper and putting it on a 71 Charger, thanks to this thread. I have a 70 Charger grille, but the bumper is rotted, so if I can get a Coronet front bumper, I may try to put one together, and put it on one of my 71 Chargers.

Hoods won't swap, Charger hood is too long. Bumper should swap with very little work. Should be easy enough to find a used core and try it. Please post pics.

Still waiting to get the car picked up. He still likes the idea of the Charger bumper and grille but might try and source a 71 coronet grille since it's flatter than the 72s and looks better.

Not to Hijack, but I am planning to cut out an old Bulge section of a '71-'72 Charger hood and weld it onto my '73 Coronet hood. Should look nice when finished.
Wish it was a simple swap from Charger to Coronet, but two different animals.

Check out my thread on my wagon about the bulge hood. The bumper is feasible but it’s not going to look line that green wagon if you use a charger bumper.

Why not use a whole front end off a Charger? Charger fenders, hood, grille bumper etc.
The front frame rails, inner fenders and rad support would be the same.

The shape of the charger fenders and the body line behind the wheels would take a fair amount of work to match them up or delete and the entire charger fender is about 4” longer, but I’m sure it could be done.

New here. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I just inherited a 72 Coronet sedan. I'd like to figure out what size motor it has and if I can get interior trim from another car? I'm not seeing a lot of options for 72 coronet dashes or pillar molding. Are there other models I could swap with?
