Hi guys, I know this is a coupe of years outside the usual B Body forum.....but a friend of mine wants to know if a Big Block 727 auto trans or manual bellhousing will be a direct bolt up to a 1960 vintage 318 Poly engine.

Not sure which way he is swinging right now, but since they are both the same, we need to ask the question.
Any help - guidance- info appreciated.
Thanks

I don't think it will. the bolt pattern for the block/trans is ok but I think those early engines had an extended crank flange and i'm not certain the year cutoff for that, maybe 1962. you'll probably have to research this on some pre 1962 Chrysler websites.

The bolt pattern for a big block transmission is different from a 318 poly, a small block trans should be used.

I don't know what year the change was but early polys had a drilled crank flange and the flywheel or flex plate was attached with bolts and nuts. Which moved the face of the crank rearward in relation to the block face. Also as emore said the poly has a small block bolt pattern.

They are small block pattern but can't verify the crank flange. I had a 64 Belvedere with a poly and a cable shift 727.
