I bought a NOS water pump and thermostat (both still in the original box and mint looking) which i plan on installing as soon as its getting warmer outside.

I know i should have asked this question prior to purchase but do you think those will still work fine?
My plan was to simply install them WITHOUT rebuilding them first.

First off you can’t rebuild a thermostat or the actual water pump you should be fine.

Uh, you definitely rebuild a water pump.

Water pump seal will be your issue if anything. Don’t be surprised if it starts weeping after a couple heat cycles.

Sort of takes the idea of NOS away doesn’t it?

Yeah i know you can't rebuild a thermostat (Thats why i also bought a new one as a backup)
But i only bought the NOS water pump for now.

Just thought while i need to wait for better weather i ask to avoid unnecessary work. :)

BB Mopar: four bolts, fan/clutch, shroud, belts... I would throw caution to the wind, but have a replacement on hand as you are in the FRG.

Is there a reason that you want to use N.O.S. parts for something that you are going to drive ? N.O.S. parts are expensive and as soon as you use them, the uniqueness goes away.

Maybe. If it’s got number on it that you want, it might be worth it. I wouldn’t count on a 50 year old pump working, sealing, for a very long time. Just my opinion.

As said above, the water pump seal would usually go bad with age. So will most seals and gaskets. These types of parts need lubrication to function properly and just dry out with age.
As usual here will be people that say theirs worked for X amount of time.... This is just a common sense observation. Old/new seals do have a tendency to leak if stored for too long. Parts warehouses will admit this if pressed for an answer. They are pliable when new and will harden with time. Just a fact. So don't be surprised if parts leak in short order. Just flip a coin.
Seals are constantly being upgraded over time as materials improve. A rebuilt water pump is just an original casting with a new seal installed. Nothing shows. You can have new seals installed when it leaks rather than buying an over the counter unit.

I want to keep the car original and i'm sceptical on the quality of reproduction parts.

Thats my fear too.
I already bought a new gasket to bolt it on the housing.

My NOS water pump for the '68 was the only pump that did not leak after a few thousand miles.... Have about 10,000 miles and 3 years on it...

Unless you have the rite casting date on that water pump for your car it will not be orginal even if you bought a NOS part

If it was stored properly I would use it and not think twice about it...
