So I bought my 65 chrysler newport some new wipers and I can't seem to figure out how to take the old ones off can someone let me know how this is done..

Yours look like mine on my '63 plymouth. Does it have a red button on it? Press it down and slide the blade out. I got replacement blades from trico to retain the OEM steel wiper housings.
 
Just to add, one arm will detach entirely pressing the button, be gentle removing and replacing it, a little finnicky. New blade will slip/insert through the other arm that holds the blade and then work the other end of the blade into the other arm that was detached. You'll see pressing the button opens the gap to reattach that arm that was dropped out. Hope this makes sense.
