I've installed a 68-440 into a 64 Fury that was a 318 car.My original harness looks good but a bit shabby and really doesn't match the detail every where else.Besides that the distributor is now in the front-I need wiring for the electric cooling fan-need wiring for the MSD box-and the starter wiring harness is too short to reach the mini- starter because the TTI headers won't allow acess from the side-I was thinking I'd have to run the wire in between the headers and block coming in from the back.Any suggestions on how these problems can be fixed.I've just about given up on the battery in the trunk idea-I've already opened up too many cans of worms. Thanks

depends on how you want to tackle the problem.if you just want to replace each wire, you can find the replacement ends(locks into factory bulkheads)with a little research.normally available at local parts stores like napa.or you could get an aftermarket wireing kit(can get a bit expensive)all depends on your willingness to do your own labor will dictate how much it will cost.

You're MSD should have plenty of extra wire length to solve you distributor problem. Everything else just needs to be lengthened to accommodate what you're doing. The electric fan will probably have some sort of relay or thermostatic switch. I think that your factory harness should go over your passenger side valve cover to reach the distributor, alternator etc. so take that route. Just take your time and solder all the new joints, followed by heat shrink. A clean wiring job can be as rewarding as anything else.

On the flip side, I've seen a ton of awesome cars with shitty wiring. Mourettes have no place on your hot rod.

i personally like to run my harness up the pass fender then cross over at the alternator(in frount of the hedder)for eng wiring.seems cleaner then on top of the intake.

It depends on the car really but I agree that the inner fender route sometimes works better. The other drawback of running over the valve cover is the heat from the intake cross over can sometimes melt wires.

What ever you do, make sure you use the same gauge wire as what you are extending from, ie., 14/14, 10/10. As stated soldier all additional wires at the splice (cover with shrink tubing) and the new connector and a little dielectric grease won't hurt when you make the connection. Do one wire at a time so something doesn't get crossed.:sign12:

For the most part I agree with all the comments. Before I got my 64 a year ago, 20 years ago I would extend my wires down the side of my inner fender well. Looks much cleaner and you dont have to keep unplugging the harness or connections to get at the intake or in the way of carb work or pulling valve covers off. Of course unless you want more of an original look. Jump to 20 years later and I have learned even more. Doing the same with my harness now. But im also going to update all mywiring under dash and a new fuse block. You can find more here at Painless Wires website. Im not going original but I will bring most of my car into the new age but keep the old look. www.painlesswiring.com Hope this helps.

Thanks for everyone for the good advice

I bought a sport fury when I was 18 and I always wanted another.Instead I found this 64 conv.which needed evrything.I know I can't take $ with me so I'm spending it on this car.Anyway I contacted Ron Francis wiring and for $449 for a complete harness-$179 for the leads to put the battery in the trunk I willprobably go this route unless something better pops up.Just like my knees-out with the old worn out stuff and in with the new.

You can buy a max wedge engine harness from Kramer. http://www.kramerauto.com/products.asp?cat=72 It already has the wires extended long enough to run down the inner fender. You can also specify the harness already wired for electronic ignition. If you go this route make sure you check the crimps on all the terminals. The one I bought had several that were loose.

Nice!!! Great. There are a few items that will make my wallet lighter. LOL

You can send your harness to Evans in Pa. and he'll remove the short wires, install the correct length an color wires, modify whatever you want, put it back together, and make it look like factory. He did this for my max wedge car, that I was running a msd box, and I wanted to hide the presence of anything related to the msd. He did it and it looks factory, and beautiful.............
